(One of those times when there are random thoughts that don't make a coherent post, but I want to get them out anyway.)
After my computer playlist went on a Disney streak:
1. A line from "Prince Ali" in Aladdin: "Just try your best to stay calm/Brush up your Sunday salaam."

That's so sad! Whereas Ursula is down with her motives and just taking care of business, preying on the miserable, lonely, and oppressed. (PATHETIC POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS--) ...Also, I can't stop singing it now that I've heard it, that counts for a lot. The mock pity is functional!

I love Costis, he is hilarious, especially with Gen! SO I SHIP IT FOR THE LOLS AND BECAUSE I LOVE IT. Nobody else I know does, everybody I know is all over the Gen/Irene (NOOO ATTOLIA/GEN). There was a girl I know who sort of ships Costis/Aris, but then she ships pretty much everything in the series.
to your comment here: I GOTTA SING ABOUT MY FEELINGS: Hee! I thought those lines were particularly appropriate because it's all about I AM GREAT AND WONDERFUL AND ALL SHALL LOVE ME AND DESPAIR!!!. I thought the dues bit fit Scar because he's all about OH HOW I AM OVERLOOKED AND ( ... )

AND YES HI HI HI FELLOW COSTIS/GEN SHIPPER. I AM SO HAPPY THAT YOU EXIST. ♥
also I wandered over to your LJ profile and you are interested in ZUKO'S PERPETUAL FAIL, I HAVE DECIDED YOU ARE AWESOME. I fell in love with Zuko five seconds into his first appearance, I THINK I SENSED, UNCONSCIOUSLY, THE AURA OF HIS HILARIOUS EMO AND PERPETUAL FAIL RADIATING FROM HIM. ♥ Oh Zuko you are so bad at being good! SO GOOD AT BEING BAD AT BEING GOOD!

This is the second time today I've seen this exact sentence. Maybe there was a comma to make a difference, but otherwise, the same sentence.

Sadly no credit can be taken, Zuko says it himself, in the series, which kind of makes it more lol. His exact words were: "WHY AM I SO BAD AT BEING GOOD?!" - you are not imagining the ANGST AND WAILRAGE.

2. Gen: I thought you hated me.
Costis: I DO.
3. Costis thinking: "Odd how you can hate someone so much, yet be so devoted to them at the same time." (paraphrased, I think)

And I'd say Costis needs to stop being tsundere, but honestly, Gen evokes his precise reaction.

I tried thinking of it in the "Costis is worried that Gen being hurt would bring adverse consequences on him and the palace staff", but Costis's thoughts were a like an instinctive, visceral reaction, I don't think he even went as far as to think about the consequences, his sole thought was KEEP GEN SAFE.
And then when Costis got to Gen, Gen was "laughing at him, like always" - at least until the assassins showed up.
I subconsciously know Costis is a total tsundere but this is what I KIND OF KEPT THINKING:
Costis: 59
Gen: 80
And going sobAND THEN LATER ( ... )

Costis: I'LL GET THE TEN CUPS I PROMISE
Gen: ... Costis I just need some help getting up the stairs.
Gen: lol did you know that was the Baron such-and-such you shoved into the flowerbeds.
Costis: I DO NOT CARE!
Gen: lols
Costis: OH MY GOD COULD YOU AT LEAST ACT LIKE A KING; WHAT IS MY LIFE
Gen: lol your FACE
THEY ARE SO MUCH FUN. And it was totally Gen that Costis was thinking about keeping safe; I remember he was a little surprised at himself.
and ha! to Costis as 59 AND GEN AS 80. YAMAMOTO WISHES. I'm sorry, he's not nearly smart enough. And I suppose Gokudera and Costis share monofocus tendencies to some extent, but er, Costis is actually a genuinely nice person so... sadly I can't see that comparison working either. XD

Costis: Tsundere bodyguard
Gen: Apparently-useless leader-type person

(During Queen of Attolia I also had a few moments of thinking that Squalo/Xanxus more or less equals Gen/Attolia, what with the bizarre adoration and the missing right hand, but that fell through in my head because I can take Gen and Attolia seriouly for entire chapters, even books at a time, which is something I just can't do for Xanxan and Squalo. XD)

He's my favourite and even so I think it is a bit much!
grump grump, Glad I'm not the only one to find that annoying. The thing is, he is intelligent, unstoppable, etc. But in the first book, you don't know the extent of it and it's fun to see it unfold. Second book, he has to get over a huge physical and mental setback. Third book, he's planned everything including all of his own problems, and then the narrative reveals his awesome to other characters somewhat at the cost of Attolia's. YOU DON'T GET TO MAKE YOUR WIFE BORING, GEN.
I did enjoy him too, though. E.g. every scene where he's with Attolia (OTP, can't help it), especially the sex on the dance floor scene (Seriously, Attolian court? You don't notice?!), and his relationship with Relius. That was sincerely sweet and amazing. Also, he's thinking about his future children to ( ... )
