Completely random things

(One of those times when there are random thoughts that don't make a coherent post, but I want to get them out anyway.)

After my computer playlist went on a Disney streak:

1. A line from "Prince Ali" in Aladdin: "Just try your best to stay calm/Brush up your Sunday salaam."

your Sunday salaamREALLY. REALLY? It's amazing how words can ( Read more... )

EDDIS IS MY FAVOURITE, I LOVE HELEN sorry, had to clear that up. But Attolia is fascinating and such an - uncommon character. I don't think I've seen another character of her type so successully portrayed.

He's my favourite and even so I think it is a bit much!
grump grump, Glad I'm not the only one to find that annoying. The thing is, he is intelligent, unstoppable, etc. But in the first book, you don't know the extent of it and it's fun to see it unfold. Second book, he has to get over a huge physical and mental setback. Third book, he's planned everything including all of his own problems, and then the narrative reveals his awesome to other characters somewhat at the cost of Attolia's. YOU DON'T GET TO MAKE YOUR WIFE BORING, GEN.

I did enjoy him too, though. E.g. every scene where he's with Attolia (OTP, can't help it), especially the sex on the dance floor scene (Seriously, Attolian court? You don't notice?!), and his relationship with Relius. That was sincerely sweet and amazing. Also, he's thinking about his future children to some extent, since he's concerned about what the Queen's Guard might mean for them, and I love the image of adorable, terrible daddy Gen.

Gen/Irene vs. Attolia/Gen: .........now I can't decide how it goes down! hmm. As of King of Attolia (I'm waiting for Conspiracy of Kings to come out in softcover) I think they're heading to Gen/Irene, but are mostly Attolia/Gen still. But they understand each other so well, which makes me want to say Gen/Irene all the waaay. (They're kind of totally amazing trolls. It's a bit like this ship is 4chan/LJ management.) Sadly I think there's going to be a good bit of Attolis/Irene in the future, which wouldn't be that great for Irene.

I love Costis, he is hilarious, especially with Gen! SO I SHIP IT FOR THE LOLS AND BECAUSE I LOVE IT.
Costis is the bestest. I can certainly get behind Costis/Gen but it would have to be in a weird acrobatics-of-justification, Attolia-gets-to-have-boy/girlfriends-too way. (No angst, thank you. Costis/Gen is too fun for angst.) Aris/Costis would be hilarious too. And actually, I could see entire Queen's Guard/Eugenides. That "Eugenides is so dreamy~" ending scene in the guard's bath gives me images of some kind of manly atonement sexytimes thing. ...I gotta stop spending time on kink memes. And perhaps I'm a "ships everything" kind of gal too.

Be Prepared: "ALL SHALL LOVE ME AND DESPAIR" is a fun villainous sentiment, but the complaints about how his awesome is overlooked just make me feel sorry sucker, you're not trying hard enough. (Also see: Xanxus.) Jeremy Irons is an incredibly strong argument, though, so I respect your decision. *g*

I LOVE YOUR ICON IT ALWAYS MAKES ME laugh.

re. Disney Villain Songs: Hee. ♥ Thanks for letting me look at the song in a different light! AND ROFL XANXUS, YES, I still have not forgotten that Varia FST in which that was Xanxus's song. XD

Also, Jeremy Ironsssssss. ♥ He and Alan Rickman are owners of Voices I LOVE.

EDDIS IS MY FAVOURITE GIRL. ♥ I must confess I shipped her with Gen; then I found out about the cousins bit. PITY.

NO WAIT WAIT: (I don't think this is a spoiler even if you haven't read the fourth book, it's just a very broad statement on whether I like relatives of a known character, but just in case:)

spoilers?

I love Sophos's mother and sisters.

/ no more spoilers.

no lie, that icon cracks me up 4/5 times.

I still have not forgotten that Varia FST in which that was Xanxus's song.
HA, excellent. There was a FST where a different Lion King song was assigned to Xanxus - from sequel, One of Us. Although that seems to be more Vongola-->Xanxus.

EDDIS IS MY FAVOURITE GIRL.
\o/

I love Sophos's mother and sisters.
This statement makes me happy! I look forward to them.

INTERESTING! I do not remember that FST, but nice! :)

I kinda see Eddis as a comfortable big-sister type you could totally look up to. :) Very approachable, very warm, while being pragmatic and smart at the same time. And also I would totally declare war on the country that cut off my cousin's hand, omg.

We sadly do not get nearly enough of Sophos's mother and sisters! Their awesome comes secondhand, but the true tales of their awesome are very awesome indeed.

That is so sweet - in a weird way - but sweet! Dear cousins: I apologise to you all, but I think I'd let the matter end with a hand.

But I think you and Eddis are both awesome for your sentiments.

Third book, he's planned everything including all of his own problems
LOL SO TRUE!

and then the narrative reveals his awesome to other characters somewhat at the cost of Attolia's
Hmm, interesting! I didn't get that sense, but then I did not notice the line re. Gen vs. Irene's awesomeness enough to remember it. Clearly another reason to reread KoA. Again. :)

especially the sex on the dance floor scene (Seriously, Attolian court? You don't notice?!)
I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. After that scene I was WHAT DO YOU MEAN NOBODY KNOWS THEY'RE IN LOVE. But perhaps people see what they want to see.

Also, he's thinking about his future children to some extent, since he's concerned about what the Queen's Guard might mean for them
Interesting! The way I read that was Gen thinking of the consequences of a military faction taking over Attolia (and then being a threat to Eddis).

and I love the image of adorable, terrible daddy Gen.
ME TOO, OMG. HE WOULD BE AN AWFUL AWFUL (I mean that in the best possible way, in the same vein as he is an AWFUL AWFUL person now) DADDY who loved his kids very very much.

I don't think Conspiracy of Kings will change your opinion of Gen/Irene vs Attolia/Gen, inasmuch as it doesn't really deal with that side of things, but yes, I too am waiting for CoK to get my own copy. (I borrowed it from a library to read)

They're kind of totally amazing trolls.
YES OMG SO TRUE

It's a bit like this ship is 4chan/LJ management.
OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO; but I mean NOOOOO in the sense of I am imagining THE HORROR, THE HORROR; also I THINK IT IS LIKE 4CHAN. The ship does not screw you over the way LJ management does. :D

Trolls make me think of Homest(r?)uck, which I am HIGHLY unlikely to get into.

Costis is the bestest.
FOR THAT AND MANY OTHER THINGS YOU ARE MY FAVOURITE PERSON. ;D

I can certainly get behind Costis/Gen but it would have to be in a weird acrobatics-of-justification, Attolia-gets-to-have-boy/girlfriends-too way. (No angst, thank you. Costis/Gen is too fun for angst.)
Yes, yes and yes! My main issue with Costis/Gen really is Attolia: I don't see her as the sort who'd actually allow Costis to go off and do that sort of thing on the side; and I don't really see her/anyone else but Gen.

AND YES, NO ANGST. The only angst that is allowed is a particular flavour of Costis frustration re. Gen's antics. But everyone has it, so.

That "Eugenides is so dreamy~" ending scene in the guard's bath gives me images of some kind of manly atonement sexytimes thing.
ME TOO! LOLROFL. SERIOUSLY. And totally.

After that scene I was WHAT DO YOU MEAN NOBODY KNOWS THEY'RE IN LOVE. But perhaps people see what they want to see.
That scene made me wonder about Attolians, as well as everybody saying that Eugenides's morning kisses were insulting. Gosh you people, OR MAYBE HE LIKES HER.

The way I read that was Gen thinking of the consequences of a military faction taking over Attolia (and then being a threat to Eddis).
That interpretation is also completely d'aawww! I love that he'd protect his homeland that way.

ME TOO, OMG. HE WOULD BE AN AWFUL AWFUL (I mean that in the best possible way, in the same vein as he is an AWFUL AWFUL person now) DADDY who loved his kids very very much.
Exactly! He'd lead his kids astray in the best ways.

I THINK IT IS LIKE 4CHAN. The ship does not screw you over the way LJ management does. :D
Actually I was thinking that Attolia = LJ, Gen = 4chan. Attolia messes you up unilaterally - ahahaha do you think your input makes a difference? Gen, as a thief, is anonymous and everywhere. :D

I kind of want to get into Homestuck because of all the good press, but it seems like such an effort. It's so long, and the art is a turn-off.

I don't see her as the sort who'd actually allow Costis to go off and do that sort of thing on the side
I love that you say Costis, because I can pretty much see her rolling her eyes and waving Gen along (on the understanding that he'd come back). But allowing a servant that kind of leeway is a lot more unlikely, even if she does basically go in the book "Take care of my husband, he's fond of you, srsly you should. Also I will axe you if you don't."

Glad I'm not the only one about the bath scene. *g* But the scene is LITERALLY full of naked appreciation, so, well. Come on.
