The tortured soul of the artiste

I was rereading the YA novel Lizard by Dennis Covington (recommended!), and happy to find out that it lives up to my memories. There were two bits this time around that made me feel very HAHA OH YEAH:

[a sculptor is showing Lizard around a museum]
"Come on, let me show you the one in the courtyard. It's my most ambitious. The one I despaired over least. I thought it was good from the moment of conception, and I never lost that high. You know, that's rare. Usually, I hate the piece off and on until it's finished, and then I just give up on the damn thing."

"... We'll make a deal. I'll try to be a sculptor, and you try to believe I am one, okay?"

Relatedly, if things go according to plan I'll be posting random fic soon. Ignore as and when you feel like it. If it gets too spammy (over one or two a day), entries will get backdated.

So I watched episode 159 of the KHR anime for *koff* REASONS - and it's kind of better than the manga, contrary to about every report ever. It's actually brought up that the characters are in the future and Yamamoto behaves like a person instead of the miracle boy, and there was a touch on a plot point - Basil's book of cheat sheets to handling the future - that hasn't been brought up again in the manga. Narrative coherency, you'd be so good to have. Seeing the characters go on about the newspaper was especially nice; it's not like that kind of world-building is necessary, exactly, but it goes a good way to making the entire story feel less slapdash. Fill in the amazing! stupendous! and frequently adorable!! technology used for fighting with some more ordinary advances and it makes things more coherent, and less like random stuff thrown together with the idea that it's kinda cool. Which it is, but you know. It would be nice to be able to go along with.

Anyway, the anime's also fun for character interaction - Futa and Bianchi hanging out is hot, and Gokudera-Ryohei-Lambo in motion is like. embarrassingly funny. Also Tsuna worrying about Yamamoto - although it was odd in the end when he was absolutely beaming when Yamamoto said he'd be "the legendary Shigure Souen swordsman", but I guess it's nice to know your friends are happy to ruin themselves because of you? And AAWWW CHROME wow, she's so gay for all the girls AAAAWWW.
