This thing where new KHR chapters come out by Friday morning: I like it.
The flailing version of Tsuna took a rest this week - about time. Mini-boss is a good look on him.
... XD Mansaurus Zakuro strikes a good balance between horrifying (those fricking needle-teeth) and hilarious. This guy is such a 12-year-old in a man's body! A DINOSAUR. Oh, Amano.
HE'S A MAN, BABY!
I WAS WORRIED. The first page gave Gokudera those unbelievably girly hips and I thought it was for sure Storm #1 would be a woman! Look, KHR fandom already has a thing about making Gokudera "the woman" that goes hand in hand with varying levels of humiliation. Gokudera is for abuse kink, canon says so, but I deeply did not want a female 1st storm to appear and bring the skeevy tendencies more to the fore. Holding thumbs for a female sun guardian, though! Sun flames have the "girly" power, so it's not unlikely Amano would give herself the leeway to go there...
Giotto and Storm v0.1 being childhood friends is adorable. I am this far from drawing hearts around them. And together, they fight crime! ... and then turn to crime?? Weird. But delicious for canon and fic possibilities.
Re: impressions on the spread of the first storm guardian:
1. He's worse than Gokudera! A storm flame tattoo on his face, for goodness' sake - clearly this man is FOR REAL, okay, A TOUGH GUY. Hmm, G. Archery, that sounds--
2. IS HE SMOKING A JOINT? I - I'm going to have to assume it's a poorly rolled cigarette. For my sanity.
3. ...archery. G. Archery. That's a bow... Gokudera has a crossbow AND THAT IS ... HOTNESS BEYOND WHAT I HAD EXPECTED, DAMN! SO *HOT*!
This is the first time Tsuna's gone and told Gokudera flat-out that he doesn't care about the Vongola & mafia-stuff. He has background flail about not being a boss, sure, but with Gokudera's incredible selective senses, he could easily fanwank that into nonexistence, and the fact that now Tsuna says it and Gokudera has to hear it -- basically, I'm smitten.
(Although I get irritated with manga dialogue staples sometimes - e.g. "you're 1000 years too early to defeat me!" and the "proof of my existence" line here. I guess they're idioms? But sometimes, like here, the lines feel like they gets in the way of understanding. It's too pat to have it put that way.)
Aaaww, look at Reborn's almost-smile. "Oho, Gokudera's still training! Borderline functional human being, coming up!" (As per this chapter, Gokudera's training from the beginning has canonically been incremental emotional development. This stands for a lot of what I love about him and about this manga.) And everyone's going "WHAT THE-- GOKUDERA? YELLING AT TSUNA? It cannot be!!" <3 And then Gokudera goes and has like. Self-awareness. And common sense. And honesty. And looooove.
I love: "...and Tenth, and the family, and I, and not one soul missing..."
*resigns self* Okay, he's going to lose and Yamamoto/Hibari are going to save him. Okay, deep breath, done.
