Not meaning to sound massively egotistical - a la Armand in Eldorado (me! me! me!) - but I have just returned to the Pimpernel fold after a weary leave of absence of, ooh, two years or so (betraying the Baroness with Jane Austen, I'm afraid). I have been easing myself back into the fandom, with a viewing of the 1934 film and a re-re-re-re-reading ( Read more... )

Have you seen the 1998 movie series?

I have, though I wasn't keen on REG or Elizabeth McGovern. That little ditty in the Dauphin episode - 'Send.Them. Both. To the guill-o-tine' - always gets stuck in my head for days afterwards! As to the Dauphin, I think pseudo-history covers that better than I ever could - there were countless theories, and impostors, after the rumour went around that the little boy was rescued from the Temple/replaced with a deaf-mute orphan, which is what the Baroness believed. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to write the Dauphin, even in the Pimpernel version of events, though!

House of Stratus started re-releasing the Pimpernel novels in paperback years ago, but never actually got around to the whole set. Now they seem to have released the Baroness' books on Kindle, including her non-Pimpernel stuff! The ebooks aren't cheap, but I don't care - this is the girl who has multiple copies of the actual novels, for the different covers ;)

And I'm like you - I might stray occasionally, but who can resist Sir Percy for long?

Ha. You aren't missing much. I couldn't even finish the series. I LOVE BBC but the SP is atrocious. I love fics that explore the brief, but poignant returns of P to M. And I love fics that explore M as a supporting member of the Band. She has so much to offer and people sometimes just shove her into a certain box. Exploring the dynamics rather than events is always good. :)
