It's tax season, and the increasing lack of comment in this journal should signal. I'll probably be back to more regular posting mid-march when things slow down and then gone again the last week of March through April 18 (this year's filing deadline because the 15th is some obscure bank holiday for D.C.).
I really meant to do this yesterday, and it would have been longer and I would have commented on more things. Clearly that didn't happen. So here's the short update on my life.
I've got a semi-regular schedule set. It seems like plenty of time off, but during peak (right now) just doesn't work out that way. Theoretically. I work Noon-5 on Sunday. 9-5 on Mondays and Tuesdays, and 9-9 on Wednesdays with my Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays off. The reality is that the earliest I've made it out of the office since the season started is 6:30, and most nights it's more like 7:30 or 8. I've been going in at 8 AM, and on Wednesday I clocked in at 8:36 AM and clocked out at 11:34 PM. I also haven't yet had a Saturday off. Today, I think I have a second processor, and possibly a preparer which should help, but I'm still expecting to put in a full 8 hours. The good news, I should have one killer paycheck on the fifth. The bad news, I'm exhausted already, and I suspect a good part of the killer paycheck will go to buy meals eaten out because the fact that I have been at work for 10+ hours while Dad has been at school for 3-4 hours and Mom has been at home all damned day, is not a reason for anyone else to actually wash a dish, prepare a meal, or you know, do anything else even remotely useful. Grrr.
With my free time, I've been writing. I'm working on finishing the NaNoWriMo 2010 project, I've also got about 3 fanfics in various stages of doneness, and one that I'm just giving a final polishing edit before posting. Mostly though, I've been reading (Cory Doctorow's Little Brother, a reread of Gaiman's Neverwhere, some random mysteries that have been laying around the house, and a re-read of GGK's Fionavar Tapestry), and watching Psych & White Collar. It was just catching up with this season of White Collar, but I've watched the first 4 seasons of Psych since Late December. I'm a little bit in love with it, and I'm sure when I have more time I'll have plenty to say about why. For now, my greatest love from the show is Lassiter, though Juliet is an incredibly awesome female lead. I also love that they continue to have things from the first couple of seasons have a meaningful impact on the later seasons, while still maintaining a strong episodic structure. I could stand to see a teensy bit more character growth (especially for Gus and my beloved Lassie).
So, maybe someday soon I'll have time to talk about how much I love the things above. For now, I've got to go finish fixing my mother's breakfast so I can go to work.
