Oh this is horrible. I'm crying. Probably because in this I identify with both Anya and Xander - Anya because she and I are quite similar, and Xander because I have similar family problems. And I understand why he did what he did.
But I honestly think they could have made it work. I think Anya could have fought harder for the relationship - I know EXACTLY what Xander was worried about (it's why I don't want to get married) but I also know that they could have struggled through it. But I know Xander, and I know he wouldn't have been able to talk to Anya about what he was feeling, and she wouldn't have been able to understand without him helping her... So maybe they wouldn't have made a good married couple. Still, I think if they'd both really made an effort it would have worked.
Oh dear. Stupid me. I'm still crying.
The worst thing is that the name of this episode used to be my nickname.
