This is just gonna be a quick post cos I'm watching the episodes. But remember how Aang's attachment to Katara blocked his last chakra? So he couldn't enter the Avatar state.
At the end of season 3 he finally enters the Avatar State... because he got shoved into a rock which pierced his scar?
What??
So I have to wonder, what does this have to do with his final chakra? Does this mean he lost all attachment to Katara? I mean, in the last episode he wasn't fighting with her (in fact she and Zuko have their relationship affirming beautiful experience).
I dunno. I just feel like, if we're to follow the logic at the end of season 2, Aang let go of his attachment to Katara to enter the Avatar State. Which means, imo, he shouldn't have ended up with Katara. In this interpretation of the Avatar, surely it would be better to avoid romantic relationships in order to prevent attachment and keep the last chakra open so that the "cosmic energy" can flow?
In this way, everything in the show seems to point towards Zuko and Katara being together (just LOOK at their relationship's progression throughout the series, especially in season 3!!!! I mean, they have an amazing journey together, and their shared experience in the finale pretty much confirms why they should be together. In a show where subtle hints can define the canon ships, I actually thought these two were going to get together in canon) and Aang being single and attachmentless (see above reasoning).
Don't get me wrong, though I prefer Zuko/Katara (otp forever), I like Aang and Katara together. But this really doesn't make sense if we look at the journey Aang takes with Guru Patik (sp?!) in season 2.
Sorry about all this pedanticness, guys. It makes me seem like I don't like Avatar at all when in actual fact, I think it's one of the best shows ever written :D Ranting about plotholes/sloppy writing/bad logic is just my thing. But I adore Avatar, don't worry :D
I just overthink it like a boss.
