Day 4 ,5 and the leech

Jul 11, 2007 09:23

We loaded up and went for a canoe trip, except for 2 of the kids who wanted kayaks. Much fun, except D seemed to have gotten a defective canoe.

The river was low, so dumping the water out was easier for them. Us adults did our best to stay away from them. Much funner to laugh from a distance!!The best tip was when A and L where close enough to try to save them from tipping..and both kayak's and the canoe tipped!!Loads of fun!!

E resting while the kids jumped off a rope into the river. There was several places we stopped and played, oh and we did do a picnic too.

At the end of the canoe trip one of the girls ,who is 7 started screeching..she had a leech on her foot! We had just loaded up into the van and I was sitting by her.I tried to pull it off, but it was stuck pretty good. OK, we have no salt..we need someone to pee on her foot. Her father, E, D, and A didn't say a word and seemed to be shrinking in there seats.Luckily her 12 year old brother stepped up and said he would do it. SO there he is under pressure with his little sister in full panic and screaming for him to pee and him saying "I'm trying!"
The leech released it's hold, but then quickly crawled in between her toes, which sent poor little B into a complete panic, while her mother was trying to grab the thing.Luckily I had some water left to poor on my sister's fingers and B's foot to wash off the urine. Big brother saved the day!!B climbed back in the van with a look of complete horror from the ordeal, while us adults tried hard to keep from laughing because the whole thing was just too much!!
Later we took the kids to swim in the lake while we picked blue berries..kids don't seem to feel cold like normal people!

going for water at a nearby park was a constant with all the showers!
Did the small town parade and carnival stuff on the 4th. Sat be the beach in Munising for the fireworks, which where completely awesome!
On the 5th, the guys cut more wood and my sister and I went in the woods to dig up more wild leeks. Now I have a huge bag of them in my freezer to cook with all year! They taste like a cross between an onion and garlic. I'm going to try putting them in my salsa as soon as I get enough garden vegi's to make it with.

The kids finished building this bridge they had been working on. They even dug out steps going up both sides. The girls didn't like it that they couldn't swing while they worked on it :-(

Then it was time to pack up as much as we could so we didn't have to do it all on the 6th.
D decided to stay there, so he'll be traveling back with my sister's family..I think they might be home tomorrow. Not sure since cell phone service is hard to find up there, so I haven't heard from them in a few days.
