hiked up to a waterfall, and I do LOVE waterfalls!!
Then we headed over to the log slide, also known as devils slide. From the Log Slide Overlook you can see some of the world’s most pristine perched dunes, Grand Sable Dunes. The Dunes covers a 5 mile stretch between the Sable River and Au Sable.
I had to gasp at the beauty of the crystal clear waters of Lake Superior below.

I read all the warnings involved in going down the slide.I should have taken a pic, but you can google "log slide warning" and find it .The kids had gotten there before us and all that remained was a pile of shoes. They had made the decent down. Took some coaxing, but I decided to go for it.E said heck with that and he was not going.

about 1/4 of the way down I can see the kids. Good to know they made it! I became breathless by the beauty of the panoramic views the dunes present.

and looking to my right. To bad my camera couldn't capture the true beauty of this!

almost to the bottom..it's a lot farther than it looks.Brandon is on his way back up, that's why he is using his hands and feet.I should have turned around when I saw that, but, no, I was too busy taking in the beauty of it all. With each step my foot would slide down the sand about 3 feet...another clue that it was going to be tough climbing back up.Also, E. decided to go after he saw me disappear..and he passed me up because I was taking pictures :-)

This is the only "solid" part and they call it the jump.

wow..bear and deer tracks together!
We all had a great time looking at all the agates in the water. Every color of rock you could imagine and tons of them!!I have to say the beach is the cleanest most awesome beach I have ever been too..I was very glad I went down !!

I tried several times to get a good shot of the stones in the lake..not sure if it was a refection that caused the black or what.

Then it was time to go back up.
Grueling isn't a strong enough word.
There is no traction in soft sand. All you could do was dig your hands and feet into it as far as you could and hope you went up more then you slid back down. Ed is in great shape and he was having as hard a time as I was !!
I thought about sliding back down and waiting the 2 hours to be rescued.
Its a 500 foot dune with a 300 foot vertical drop ..which means fucking steep and a pain in the ass to get back up.
It means you scream when you see others from your group above you who tell you "no, this isn't the top, we are only about half way up ", and you are already seeing yourself stuck trying to get up a sand dune for the rest of your life.
It means like an hour to get up a hill that took less than a minute to go down.
It means that next time I am walking down the beach the 2 1/2 hours to the next town to be picked up.
It means you understand why they call it devils slide.
But I can say I did it, and I am a little proud of myself for it!!
Then I realized I was covered in sand from head to toe and would need a bath. The thought of getting back in the ice water was bone chilling.
We started heating up water and using a watering can to shower with. Awww..nice warm shower..everyone gets one watering can which was plenty. The kids went about swinging across the creek and we sat by the fire and relaxed.Solid ground is a good thing.
