It hurt, more than he was willing to voice.
Braska mirrored his pain, his gorgeous blue eyes giving away how broken he was underneath that strong front of being an entitled summoner, of being Spira’s only hope to end their sorrow. Jecht swallowed thickly, his throat tight, mouth dry as he tried to commit to memory the face of his friend.
“Are you willing?” Yunalesca asks.
“Yes,” both summoner and guardian answer in unison.
She nodded her head, “Joining with the Final Aeon is more difficult than the rest of your training summoner,” Yunalesca spoke, but to Jecht, her voice was far away as he stared at Braska, their gazes held unyielding.
“Jecht,” Braska whispered, through clenched teeth, “I will defeat Sin.”
“You must,” Jecht tells him. The resolve in his summoner’s gaze resounded within him, even as he watched the faint glistening tears that streaked down pale cheeks.
“And you will help me,” Braska nods, not acknowledging the crack in his façade. Not that Jecht would acknowledge it either, since his own emotions were turbulent and swirling at best, tears prickled at the corners of his eyes, threatening to fall yet never actually doing so.
“It is my final wish,” Jecht responds, his lips curling into his usual cheeky gin as he pushed past his feelings, shoving them down so he wouldn’t have to deal with them. Not now, not in this moment.
“Then let us begin,” Yunalesca raised her hand.
