Late August
Kagome stared at the stack of bills cluttering up her breakfast counter as she licked at the berry flavored sucker she held to her lips. With a sigh, she deftly slipped the sucker into her mouth and walked out of the kitchen, not really interested in sifting through the mountain of debt she was slowly falling down.
She flopped onto her favorite spot of her sofa and reached to pull her briefcase into her lap, intending on pulling out the novel she had started while at work. Kagome retrieved the paperback, her eyes catching sight of red peaking between the pages.
Curiously, she shook her book to dislodge whatever it was, the slip of a business card fell lightly onto her lap. When she saw the hasty numbers scrawled across the back of the red card, her face bloomed into a light blush.
“Oh,” Kagome cleared her throat, staring at it, “I never called him.”
She picked it up and quickly reached for her cell phone on the end table, with the intention on calling Inuyasha, but as she focused on the numbers she had punched in, her resolved faltered.
“I’ve only seen him twice. I doubt I will again. It’s been weeks anyway,” Kagome mumbled to herself, unsure of what to do, before she shook her head, dispersing the thoughts.
“I’m not calling him,” she decided, tossing the business card back into her briefcase and closing it.
Instead, she returned to her book, settling in to relax.
