Happy Autumn Equinox-

Sep 25, 2006 16:24

I LOVE this time of year… I love the cooler nights of sweaters and sweatshirts, and warm days of short sleeves… I love the crispness of the mornings and the dew covered grass. I love hearing birds playing happily and geese gathering to fly south. This is my ultimate favorite time of the year.

I love the harvests, the last of the summer fruits and the beginnings of all the yummy apples. And I know that soon we will be having the Apple Harvest Festival- which is a local tradition, I think, http://www.appleharvest.com/ and it’s always held the first two weeks of October. To me, it is a very yummy way to celebrate the harvests in the modern culture. There’s all kinds of foods and activities. And I know once I hit the equinox the apple harvest is right around the corner!

But enough of that and back to the equinox itself…
I love the stories of the equinox- and I realized this year that I’ve told the story of Demeter and Persephone and Hades enough that my older daughter now knows and understands it completely. She recited the story to me and told me about the seasons and I could have wept that I was/am able to pass this onto her. I hope that in years to come she will share those same stories and pass them on as well. I Hope that in years to come she will continue to bid Persephone a fond farewell for the winter and greet her again in the spring. I Hope that she can understand and see not just the story but the mysteries beneath them. And for now, I am glad she can appreciate this time of year with me, with all of it’s many offerings.
