Oh Em Gee! An Update?!

Sep 27, 2006 14:04

Yeah, guys, so I suck at this whole updating thing. And it's not like there hasn't been things going on, either! Some of the best moments this year have happened in the past few months.

My birthday was astoundingly wonderful in all its simplicity. The factor which made it so great was all the emails, LJ comments, and random internet messages I got over the course of the day. It made me smile and made me feel giddy. So a very belated but very heartfelt thank you!

At the end of July we trucked it up to the backwoods of Maine and went whitewater rafting on the Kennebeck with my sister as a raft guide. The day was absolutely gorgeous, the water was surprisingly warm, and everyone had a blast. We managed to fill the boat with family and friends, too. During this trip, I was reminded of how thankful I was that Jer and I moved back out here, and how proud I am of my sister and her accomplishments. It ain't easy being a raft guide. Right now she's spending a semester entirely outdoors sea kayaking, rock climbing, and canoeing all throughout Maine...and getting graded on it, no less. Come Thanksgiving I think she'll cry with joy when she sees a toilet and spend an entire day in bed - at least that's what I'd do, in her shoes. Maybe she won't know what to do with herself, won't know how to reaclimate, who knows? Anyway, I'm damn proud of her.

Sometime in August we went and visited with Glenn and Maggie. 'Visit' doesn't really capture that weekend, though. It was a weekend spent with friends (I was so happy that Dan and Lynda were able to come!), feasting and chatting, hiking and healing. We did some clensing elemental rituals in Sandwich Notch, and more back at their farm. It's so amazing when incredible friendships can spark out of chance meetings - I'm sure we could chat with Glenn and Maggie for days, if given the chance. As it was, we had to say goodbye about five times before we actually left since we got so sidetracked conversing.

August was busy and, towards the end, filled with self-imposed stress. I suddenly realized I had a buttload of alterations to make on my costumes, make Jer's costume, and another one for me all before Labor Day weekend. Thankfully I was saved by the object of my affection, the one I cuddle with at night, and which I spend lavish amounts of money and time pampering. Yes, I'm talking about MY NEW SERGER. It...it's so beautiful. I almost cried the first time I used it. And that baby can go through anything, I swear! Jer is just now starting to live with the fact that I can love him and my serger equally, though he still may be harboring some jealousy.

Anyway, I'm thinking of actually starting to commission items. Especially since my costumes were received well at D*C.

For those who haven't seen them yet (which may be one or two people, by now, since I've posted the links at all my other haunts), here are the links to Dragon*Con pics! Dragon*Con was flipping awesome, but incredibly hard to describe to someone who has never gone. I've been asked what we actually did there, and I'm always struggling for a response. "We, uuh, stood around and watched people and went to panels and were super geeks and met a bunch of friends from forums and partied a whole lot?" Doesn't sound like much, does it? But, boy, was it worth every dime. We're already planning for next year. And it was an ego boost, too! Not only were my costumes complimented, but I had people say to me: "Thank you for wearing spandex right." "Thank you for being a Rogue with curves." I just felt good.

I had ConCrud after that, too. Serious bad. But I guess it's inevitable after shuffling around hotels filled with 30,000 people. Next year we'll have to take that Airborne stuff.

Last Friday we went to the Avalon in Boston for the concert I bought tickets for for Jer's birthday. It included Badfish (a Sublime tribute band) and a line of other reggae/punk bands. I'm in love with a band named Spiritual Rez - a reggae band with such tremendous, uplifting energy. Check them out on MySpace, I highly recommend them.

Right now I'm loving fall, getting ready to close up Lone Oak for the season and jump right into the Music Hall, and fuelling my passion for costuming. I have many ideas, but since this is getting long, I'll discuss those some time else.

There's also been unpleasantries happening on the X-Men MUCK I like to frequent, but I don't quite feel like complaining right now. It's just really bumming me out.

Phew! Hopefully I'll update again soon, but... no promises. Love!
