Seriously, people, it's called "Respect"

The people responsible for reprinting the caricatures of Mohammad after the Danish paper had withdrawn them with an apology should be fired and their careers blacklisted until they die of natural causes decades from now. That way what they did will be something they can't forget. While calling for decapitation is a bit extreme, the fuckers did the equivalent of calling Jesus a bastard for not having a legitamate father. Blasphemy, basically. And you know what? I'm all for some blasphemy. But not when we have a delicate situation with the peoples that are being offended. After all the shit these people have been through because of our war with their militants (note: "Al-Sistani, who wields enormous influence over Iraq's majority Shiites, suggested militant Muslims were partly to blame. He referred to "misguided and oppressive" segments of the Muslim community and said their actions "projected a distorted and dark image of the faith of justice, love and brotherhood." from cnn.com, toward the bottom of the page.), the Western World gives muslims as a whole just another reason to be pissed off. Which is something that is not exactly condusive to peace talks. In fact, it's a big fuck-up, all for the sake of a bad and inaccurate joke.

I mean, a cartoon of The Prophet with a bomb for a turban? That's a bit much. That's like portraying Jesus as a Crusader. Mohammad made some rules about shedding blood in defense of Islam at a time when there was a serious possibility that the new religion might be wiped out completly, and about 1500 years later people quote Mohammad out of context. It's not the Prophet's fault that some of this followers are a bit psycho, just like it's not Jesus' fault that during the Crusades Christians slaughtered women and children just because they were darker and had a different savior.

It gives a little glee to my heart to hear that boycotts of Danish products are a big response to this whole fuck-up of the press. 'Cause that gives more of a message than beheading someone that may be responsible, and it involves a lot less blood. But that's one of the few sane responses from the Muslim world, and you know what?

I really can't blame them for being kinda insane sometimes. White people piss me off too.
