more election musings

I think what really makes me sick about the state of governance in Singapore is the idea that the majority party in the government thinks it's the government and won't serve the people who declined to vote for them.

I mean, if you want to talk about divisive politics - this is it right here. What's more divisive than separating the nation into those who voted for you and those who didn't?

I'm very heartened by the amount of news and online movement I'm seeing on the Internet and various social media. At the same time, for all the voices we're starting to hear, I'm not convinced that it will translate into actual votes for a change of governance in Singapore. Our vocal minority is loud, but still a minority. For all the dissent I'm hearing and seeing in my social circle, realistically, I'm not expecting a lot of change in the political landscape in Singapore. For every person who shares my political sentiments there are a hundred more who don't participate in politics, who don't care, and who can't be arsed about the whole deal.

In other news, as of this morning, we have a majority conservative government here in Canada. This is really quite sad. It's also really interesting to think that my (political) beliefs are not only so far left of centre, but also so firmly in the minority. Clearly, if I think I'm so damn smart, then the majority is indubitably very stupid.
