My comma button is broken
I have seen some ridiculous shows lately. For my birthday Malaya took me to see Neko Case who was obviously wonderful. Jason Lytle (of Granddaddy) opened and he was obviously also really great.
Alyssa also told me I could pick two shows to see and she would pay for the booze and the show as a birthday gift. So my first pick was last night. Thao (w/ The Get Down Stay Down) played with the Portland Cello Project. If you haven't heard Thao...she has a fucking great voice. Emily Wells opened. I didn't know who she was ahead of time but she totally blew my mind. (if you like violins/hip-hop/sultry voices/loops check this out). She played with a drummer and upright bass player last night. Oh god it was good.
I also had a job interview at Boom Noodle on Capitol Hill for a hostess position. It went well I think. Maybe someday I will make money again! It would be rad to work there because the food is so fucking good and maybe I could learn how to bartend.
That is mostly all I have to say. Oh I am working on another short story. Moving up here and being unemployed has given me so much time/energy to write. I wish somehow I didn't have to live with my mom in order to fiscally make this happen.
Here are some books I have read:
1. The Killing Joke by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland - This was good. I am not really into comic-y comic books. I prefer the self-deprecating/auto-biographical kind. But this was pretty compelling. It was just sort of laying around so I read it.
2. Washington Square by Henry James - Geez. This was recommended by my friend Alyssa. She said it reminded her of my relationship with my Dad. Fuck.
3. Funny Misshapen Body by Jeffrey Brown - This was so good. This is more the kind of comics I usually read and honestly this was the best thing I've read by Jeff Brown lately. It was different than his other more relationship-y stuff. It was more about how he got into comics.
4. Iceland by Jim Krusoe - This was weird but I liked it. I guess the thing is is that I like weird stuff. The best part was the beginning when he meets the hot blonde in the pool of organs and they get it on. Best part.
5. The Girl in the Flammable Skirt by Aimee Bender - Holy fuck Aimee Bender. I love you. These stories are the kind of stories that I love the most and aspire towards.
