Hello babysecretlove January 12 2003, 02:07:48 UTC
I just have to post a comment on this entry, cuz I just wrote about movies on my page tonight too hehe.
I agree with you about many foreign movies. I LOVE French movies most of the times because they focus more on their scenarios instead of CG or action crap. And since they tend to have deeper story lines, they usually make me think a lot after watching them. I love movie that make me think a lot too. I think they are the best kind!
However, in my opinion, foreign movies are NOT always better than American ones. Let me give you an example....
Well, you know the movie "The Ring" right? It came out last year.
It was just a remake of a Japanese movie called "Ring" which had come out in Japan back in the 90's, and it was a HUGE hit in Japan.
I've seen both of them, and the American one had the pretty much the same scenario as the Japanese one.....
However, yes, the Japanese one had almost no CG stuff and the American version had it here and there.
Although I usually don't enjoy movies with lots of CG, *in my opinion* the American version of this movie was better, I think.
It's just...I guess they used the CG pretty well.
So yeah, I think Americans make good movies as well.

I also think that "Donnie Darko" was a good American movie too. It had a great story, even though it had crappy CG stuff. (Have you seen it?)
When I finished watching this movie for the first time, I just sat there and stared at the screen and thought about it. And then...I started watching it again! lol
Cuz to me, it was such a deep story, and I just had to watch it more than once.
Plus the movie was stuck in my head for couple days. I just kept thinking about it. (I felt like I was brainwashed or something lol)

Anyway, going back to the French movie talk....
Have you seen "Betty Blue"??
If you enjoy most of the French movies, I think you might like this one.
I personally love this movie......
It's a love story just like many other French movies...but hey....this one is actually more than a love story...
(You'll know what I'm talking about when you watch it ;)
What is your favorite French movie? Any good reccogmendation?

I'm sorry for this long reply lol
I just love movies sooo much, and I thought your entry was interesting, so I really wanted to leave my comment here...
I hope you didn't mind!

actually, i have seen many of those movies.

I was not discrediting american movies as a whole, but a large protion of them do suck, and try to make buck with *eye candy*.

ok, so the break down of what i have seen:

The Ring: I liked it, but I liked the original better, and the prequel and sequel(0 and 2). The only thing i think that made the American version better in any way was the fact that we *enhanced it*. It was an honest job.

Donnie Darko: I <3 this movie. More than you know. Why? For an american movie, it was awesome. but it was independent. so it wasn't bought by a big company, and therefore good. Donnie Darko is prolly one of my favorite movies EVER.

(i hate big companies. they make things lack.)

Btty Blue: oops, haven't watched that yet. :\

anyhoo, as for good movies for reccomendation:
Pie. (that math term thing? looks like a double *t*)yah. good. (i think it's german? it's been awhile)
Run Lola Run. german. it kicks ass. chick is hot.
City of Lost Children: just beautiful. the french just blow me away.
Le Pacte de Loupes: just cuz it's french and sexy as hell. *humina for the indian and the italian whore*

That's what's at the top of my head. I'm rather brain dead at the moment. heh.

Oh, and i appreciate your feedback. Makes cazzy happy. :D

Hiya again! babysecretlove January 12 2003, 02:45:11 UTC
Yay! You like Donnie too! It's sooooo good, huh? I just love that movie too! But yeah, you are right, it was an independent movie. (speaking of independent movies...I love Harmony Korine's work a lot. Do you like his stuff at all? I think my favorite is "Julien Donkey-Boy". I know many people find his work disturbing and can't stand it. They even say that he is using disabled people as an object like freak shows, but I think he is just representing the reality of this society; reality is not beautiful.)
Anyway, I've seen "Pie", "Run Lola Run", and of course, "City of Lost Children" :)
Too bad, I haven't seen "Le Pacte de Loupes" so yeah, I think I will check it out sometime soon! Maybe next week hehe.
I love "Run Lola Run"! It got cool music too. Good music is always a plus to me :P
Oh yeah, if you liked Lola, you may wanna check out "The Princess and The Warrior". (Have you seen it??)
Franka Potente (Lola) is in it, and it's pretty good too. I really enjoyed this movie, but some of my friends couldn't stand it lol
So yeah....I guess it's one of those movies that have big fans and haters at the same time. haha
