The 2nd Worst Book Adaptation Ever

First of all, I'd like to state that I am not a big fan of Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth series. I've read 9 of 11 books, up to Chainfire so far, and found them more and more irritating. Or rather, the main character. Why do I keep reading them, you may ask. Well, that is just... me being me :P And I plan to read the last two, make no mistake. When I find the time. Not high on my reading priorities list by any means.

Anyway. Last year I found out they were making a TV series based on the books. I told small_krecik about it, she watched the first episode (or more perhaps? Boo?) and told me it was crap. Sent me a link to the 1st ep, too, but somehow I have never had the time to actually watch it for myself. Until this fine morning, when I saw the 1st episode in our Channel 1's evening schedule - I knew I had to see it :D

And now I have *headdesk ad infinitum* Honestly, it's that bad. It's your worst stereotypes about fantasy books distilled into vision. You think I had issues with what Peter Jackson did to LotR? His films were at least a joy to watch even if blood boiled here and there at the (unnecessary) changes. This is Xena set in the Sword of Truth universe. I seriously think they only kept the characters' names to have an excuse for associating this... thing with the original books. If I were a true fan, I'd be tearing my hair out or worse. I will of course watch more, to see how deep it can sink - I am quite curious about certain aspects of the story and how they will be presented.

And if you are wondering what's the Worst Book Adaptation Ever - I encourage you to read The Dark Is Rising and then watch the film. You'll be left speechless.

And I honestly hope they will NEVER EVER make this series about Honor Harrington I've been so excited about at one point. These books I actually like very much, I might not survive entirely unscathed if they were similarly treated...
