I Still Care [4/14]

Yesung/Ryeowook, a few ninjas
R | Romance, Drama
Life was never particularly kind to Ryeowook. If it meant indulging him in the riches, opportunies thrown at him, then he doesn't need that kindness. All he wanted is a friend, but it's much too hard to ask for.
Warnings: Mentions of drugs, weapons, some vulgar slips, insanely OOC

[RYEOWOOK’S POV]

“Ryeowook~” The voice rang beside me.

I sigh, it’s him again. What does he want? He’s been acting strange lately, but…I know why. “Yes?” I replied.

“I really care for you!” He happily responded.

I jumped at his sudden confession. What did my grandmother say to him that day? “Wh..what are you doing?” I stuttered, trying to act like I didn’t care.

[YESUNG’S POV]

“Showing you how much I care for you!” I replied, smiling. Ryeowook’s grandmother’s words replayed in my head, ‘he believed that no one cared for him.’ I want him to know that people still care for him, if he gave them a chance.

“Are you crazy?” He asked.

I laughed, “Yes, I am crazy~”

Ryeowook in response got up and went to the kitchen.

“Hyung, I think you’re crazy too,” Kangin yelled from across the room.

“He’s crazy in love~!” Donghae added, laughing.

“I’m crazily in love with you Donghae~” Eunhyuk bellowed, hugging Donghae.

“GROSS!” I yelled while pretending to show a disgust face. I looked around and noticed that I was surrounded by couples. Hangeng and Heechul…Kangin and Leeteuk…Eunhyuk and Donghae…Kyuhyun and Sungmin…Then I spotted Siwon, Shindong and Kibum, and felt relief. At least they’re not coupled up…

“Hyung, I’m hungry! When are we having dinner?” Shindong yelled across the room.

“In a few minutes,” Hangeng replied jumping out of the room, into the kitchen.

Dinner should be tasty…with Ryeowook’s help.

-------

“Kyu, stop fidgeting,” Heechul angrily retorted.

“It’s been a while since they left,” he replied, walking back and forth.

“You’re going to make us all dizzy! Stop it!” Kangin yelled, throwing a pillow at him. He caught it, but didn’t stop.

He stared at the clock. It has been a while since they left, but what’s there to be scared of?

--------FLASHBACK-------

“There’s no more flour…”Hangeng noticed while looking into the empty cabinets.

“I’ll go get it…” Ryeowook offered. Everyone stared at him, since when was he so nice?

“Do you need money?” Leeteuk asked. Everyone can clearly see the happiness in his eyes. Ryeowook is opening up little by little.

“No, I have hyung,” Ryeowook replied, turning his back to us.

“I’LL HELP!!!”Sungmin suddenly jumped up from the couch, out of Kyuhyun’s arms.

Kyuhyun frowned. He was confused like everyone else as to why he would want to go.

“I can go alone,” Ryeowook replied, with a little tint of happiness in his tone.

Sungmin noticed the happiness and took advantage of it.

“Let’s go!” Sungmin insisted while dragging him out the door. Leaving everyone behind, who all stared in confusion. What goes on in Sungmin’s mind?

--------END OF FLASHBACK-------

Then as if they knew that we were talking about them, Sungmin danced through the door.

“Hello everyone! We’re back~!” He happily declared while giving Hangeng the bag of flour.

Ryeowook on the other hand, made a silent entry. One thing stuck out particularly, a pink bunny bandage on his hand.

“What happened to your hand Ryeowook?” Leeteuk asked. Obviously with his sharp eyes, he would notice a change immediately.

“RYEOWOOK ALMOST GOT HIT BY A POT!” Sungmin exclaimed with concern on his face.

Everyone stopped and started to crowd around him. “Are you okay?” “Are you hurt?” started to fill the air.

“WHAT?!” I yelled while taking Ryeowook’s hand and examining it myself. It looked okay, there was a cut underneath the bandage but it wasn’t too deep. I could hear Kyuhyun asking if Sungmin was alright as I was examining Ryeowook’s hand.

Leeteuk then examined it next. “It looks okay; just don’t let it get infected.”

“It’s nothing hyung, I’m alright,” Ryeowook said while flicking his hand back and forth to show us that eh was okay. He wasn’t use to the amount of attention he was getting, so he tried to play it cool.

“It was strange though, you were just walking then I noticed a shadow and saw the pot. I pulled him back immediately but he cut his hand on the concrete,” Sungmin explained. “Then I gave him the bandage to use.” That explains why it’s pink with bunnies. Only Sungmin had those kinds of bandages.

“Probably someone was clumsy and dropped it,” Ryeowook said, eyeing the bandage.

“Ryeowook, you have to keep it on.” Sungmin said, crossing his arms. They seem to have gotten closer…Though it is hard to ignore Sungmin when he’s beside you.

“Do I really have to?” Ryeowook replied, looking at it with disgust.

“But pink is cute…” Sungmin trailed off.

“I’m going to go help with the cooking,” Ryeowook said, ignoring Sungmin. He didn’t say anything about taking it off so I guess he’s keeping it on. Everyone just stared at Sungmin, who in response just grinned. What exactly did they talk about? Ryeowook actually talked a lot today; it was surprising to see him home to begin with.

-------

“WOW, these looks amazing,” Shindong exclaimed and started to eye the food he wanted to eat.

“Thanks, surprisingly Ryeowook is a good cook.” Hangeng replied.

“It’s nothing really. I get tired of my maid’s cooking, so I try cooking myself…sometimes,” Ryeowook explained.

“Let’s just eat!” Kangin announced, rushing to eat the food.

This was the first time Ryeowook ever stepped into the kitchen to cook for us. Usually he eats out with his friends or doesn’t join us for dinner. Why the sudden change? Though I like this change, we can see him more often. I stared at Ryeowook getting ready to eat. He looks…happy, I guess aside from singing, he likes to cook as well.

[SUNGMIN’S POV]

I heard a light knock on the door. I looked at Kyu to see if he was expecting anyone. He shook his head.

“Come in,” I yelled.

The door slowly opens revealing Ryeowook.

“Hello Ryeowook,” I smiled. What brings him here?

“Hyung…can I talk you?” He asked. Kyuhyun froze beside me.

“O..of course!” I responded back, excitedly. I wonder why Ryeowook would want to talk to me, he seems to have a bunch of other friends, though I’m not complaining. From day one, I tried talking to him but he completely ignored me. If we’re going to be a group then we should at least get along.

Ryeowook looked at Kyuhyun, “in private?”

“Sure, Kyu~ Can you get out?” I asked nicely. Though I don’t think there’s a nice way to kick someone out.

“Aissh, fine.” Kyuhyun replied before storming out of the room. He’s mad…It is our room but Ryeowook barely talks to us…and our last talk wasn’t so bad.

After he left, I looked at Ryeowook, expecting him to talk.

“Why…did you volunteer to go with me?” Ryeowook asked, confused.

I couldn’t help but laugh at him. He’s so cute; I want to pinch his cheeks. “Well, I thought you would be lonely going by yourself.”

His expression softened a little, “I thought everyone gave up trying to get to know me…”

“Not everyone. Ryeowook, we’re a team now. We have to look out for each other.” I replied, hoping that he would actually try to be friends with us now. Everyone is really friendly and lovable, even Heechul has a soft side.

Ryeowook just stood there, silently looking at the floor. This must have been new to him…

“So how’s your hand?” I asked, looking at the bandage. He really did keep it on.

“It’s nothing; it’s just the pink that bothers me.” Ryeowook teased. Then he started to look around the room. “Your whole room is practically pink, except for Kyuhyun’s belongings.”

I laughed, “Kyuhyun isn’t too fond of pink himself.”

Ryeowook laughed as well. I stopped and stared at him. This is the first time I heard him laugh “Ryeowook, you should laugh more often, you won’t seem as scary,” I told him, grinning.

He stopped laughing and looked away. I guess he isn’t used to this either…

“Thank you hyung.”

“No problem Ryeowook. I wasn’t much of a help but come to me if you ever need anything.” Ryeowook has a lot of new things - well, new to him - he doesn’t know about yet… a lot of things he hasn’t experienced...I hope he can depend on me from now on.

-------

[EUNHYUK’S POV]

“Kyuhyun, what are you doing?” I asked, really confused. I was walking straight to my room but I see Kyuhyun standing outside his room, having his ears pressed to the door.

“Shhh~” He whispered. I never knew the magnae could get jealous over Sungmin. Well…I would have done the same thing if it had happened to Donghae. Ryeowook’s being…strange lately…

Suddenly he got up and the door opened. Ryeowook appeared surprise to see us.

“Kyuhyun, you can have your room back now,” He said, slightly smiling. What day is it today? He seems to be really different… and happy.

“Thanks…” Kyuhyun mumbled back as Ryeowook walked past him.

Kyuhyun made sure he was gone and pointed, as he whispered, “What’s with him?”

“I don’t know Kyuhyun, but I’m happy we’re seeing more of Ryeowook.” I replied. A happy Ryeowook too...

------

[RYEOWOOK’S POV]

I struggled to sleep, staring at the ceiling. For some reason it’s really hard to sleep tonight... Today went by quickly, so many things happened…

Who knew Sungmin’s reflexes were so fast. Even I didn’t see the pot coming; thankfully he pulled me back fast enough.

I was surprised at first when they started to crowd around me. It felt warm and I felt…happy. Then when we were at dinner, we actually talked a lot. They tried to include me in their chat and this time…I didn’t reject it. We teased each other and made jokes, it felt really nice… When I was little, most of the times, the nannies didn’t speak Korean, so it was always quiet. When I grew up, I barely ate at home. I usually ate at restaurants with my friends.

------- FLASHBACK-------

“Ryeowook, you have wonderful friends,” grandmother smiled.

I stared at her confused, “What are you talking about?” What’s so great about my friends? They’re a bunch of ignorant riches.

“I mean your trainee friends.”

“Trainee friends?” I questioned.

“Especially Yesung, he’s kind and caring.” I stared at her. She rarely praises people, so what did Yesung do that was so admirable?

Then the thought hit me, “Did he come?”

She was silent for a while. I guess he did visit after all.

“Ryeowook, don’t get angry at him.”

“I know…I won’t,” I assured her.

“Can you also promise me that you’ll TRY to accept his kindness?”

I couldn’t refuse her. Grandmother is very precious to me, so whatever she asks for, I would without a doubt do it. Though this time, I hesitated for a while. “I promise you I’ll try but I won’t guarantee anything.”

“Also, accept your members’ kindness too. They’re good people Ryeowook, not like them.”The mention of them sent me to the past. The feelings of betrayal and pain came back. These feelings were something I never wanted to experience EVER again.

“I promise you that too, but again, I won’t guarantee anything.”

“Accepting their kindness is a hard step for you Ryeowook, but I think you will be much happier,” grandmother assured while smiling.

“Thanks for always looking out for me,” I replied smiling.

------- END OF FLASHBACK-------

I stared at Yesung’s sleeping face. What did I do…to deserve someone like you? What did I do to deserve someone who cares for me so much but I in response can’t care for you?
