Muppets, Inscects, Music, & A Free Lunch...

Well, a lot of shit has been happening. Let's see if I can remember it all:

Bill has introduced us to the joys of The Call of Cthuhlu rpg. It's as awesome as you think it is. Hopfully more games will be played very soon.

School has been lame. Tons of papers (though I'm kinda proud of my paper on Persepolitan Art. I think that paper was solid), directing scenes, and not to mention The Insect Comedy. I'll get to that in a second.

Friday the 17th Big Bad Bobby played Wamapapolooza. We went on around the half-way point of the night, and we played a pretty sick set. We only played three songs (Duck & Cover / Celestial Love Play / It's Over) but we rocked from start to finish and the crowd seem to enjoy themselves. We got a ton of compliments as we were getting offstage and packing up, which was much appreciated. Chin acted as my drum tech for the evening, which was quite handy. It was also good to see Albert and the guys in Grilling Wilson again, and of course it was nice to see everyone from Theatre Guild.

By the time the band was packed up and ready to go our seperate way, it was 9:30, so I had to quickly change and high-tail it to the Theatre Banquet in Halifax. When I walked in everyone got a kick out of my costume, which was what I was the most excited for (you'd be suprised how hard it is to find a smoking jaket). And even though I missed the award ceremony I took home a gumdrop award, which was very flattering. I didn't get there till 10:30, and by that time half the people were exhausted from dancing all night and the other half had established that they weren't having a good time, so I arrived at an odd end of the night lull. The bus started taking people back to campus around 11:30 anyways. Almost feels like I put so much effort (into the whole day) for such little pay off. Getting ready for a show and banquet in one night was a fairly lame process. Oh well, at least I got to rock that night in Braintree. Makes the whole day worth it.

The following day I jammed with Jamie Harrison, recently returned from LA. We were briefly in Rupture together and he was (still is) a sick guitar player and wanted to Jam with me sometime. We ended doing a lot of free jamming and recorded a lot of them. Excerpts of our jams can be found here : http://www.myspace.com/jamesjharrisondec87 I play drums on three tracks: Al Is Short For A Hanful Of Things / Fictitious Dick / I Don't Believe in Xeno. It was a lot of fun playing those, so feel free to give them a listen sometime.

And now we come to The Insect Comedy! I am one of several people who were roped into this show for one reason or another. My reasoning: they had no tech crew and if I wasn't going to say yes then who would? Plus I was going to be staying late for Directing purposes and paper researching, so why not man a fly rail as well? This show is a typical Stephen Levine show: if you're in the audience you're having a great time watching the show. If you're in the show, you're absolutely miserable. I don't have to do much, just worry about two back drops on fly lines and make sure no one falls when the ants are running aroundl ike crazy backstage.

The show itself isn't that bad; reminds me a lot of The Golden Ass in terms of how it's presented and the brand of comedy. A lot of the comedy revolves around audience participation, so tech week rehearsals made the show a bit stale. On opening night I think the crowd wasn't sure what to think of the show, but warmed up by the end of the show. Plus Jen was in attendence on opening night (opening night flags + Jen = wonderful combination for any show). After the show fun times were had at the 99 (read: mad Kermit face). The crowds the last two shows have responded really well too. Even today's matinee, which was the smallest crowd yet was the most reponsive. Everyone I've talked has really enjoyed the show, which is very relieving to hear.

In the middle of the week the theatre faculty treated myself, Lacey, Meg, Katia, Sara, and Stephen to a free lunch in honor of our contributions to the department for the past school year, at BSC's fancy dinning room. It was by far one of more relaxing moments I've had this semestar. Hopfully we can all do that again sometime.

Another week is intense studying and Insect Comedy awaits. After this week will be finals, followed by a few weeks to rest, and then back to Forestburgh for another interesting summer.

ME: What exactly is Springfest?
BRITTANY: Drinking...a lot.........of alcohol.
ME: ...Yes, I sorta picked up on the alcohol part myself, but thank you for clarifying.
