Sent On A Mission!!

Ruina was surprisingly good at following directions, as long as they were precise.

Her childish mind directed her too-adult Egyptian body through all the steps Nephthys had given her, finally reaching Hephaestus' place. She knocked properly, as instructed, and waited. In her hand she held a missive, addressed to the God of the Forge.

But when the door opened and she glimpsed Dite behind the lame god, she couldn't help but giggle. Oh, it was perfect. Her perverse natural inclinations began spinning intuitions all by themselves.

"I am her niece, or stepdaughter, if you like," Ruina said, by way of introduction. It was clear that she was Egyptian, and therefore she didn't believe that the "her" could mean anything other than Nephthys to Hephaestus. It was a childish mistake, but perhaps a misleading one; it would depend on Hephaestus to find the true meaning.

She continued, "I was sent to you to deliver this."

Here, she handed Hephaestus the note and wrinkled up her nose, reciting what Nephy told her to say.

Closest to my heart,

I fear I have many questions that weigh heavily on me, questions that can only be answered by you. Please see me at your earliest convenience. Presently, I stay in the protection of my brother Seth.

Yours,
Nephthys

"She entreats from you a reply, either delivered in person or by my hand.... But I see you have company, and I will let her know that you're otherwise.... engaged!!"

Ruina thought her last comment was rather clever indeed. Engaged! Ha! Married, say better! And to the Greek Goddess of Love! She shook her head, marveling again at her stepmother-aunt's choice. It couldn't last for long, surely!

Before turning, Ruina couldn't help but comment, making her voice just strong enough to reach the goddess behind him. "You know, it's strange how I find you and Dite together, while just recently I walked in on Ares and Nephy! So strange, how pairings work, don't you think?" Her eyes glistened with destruction and she giggled again. It would have sounded normal from a 7 year old child, but coming out of her adult throat, it sounded hideous.
