My honest opinion, albeit after reading and reviewing only a small amount of the press that has come out of this controversy, is that Komen is a failed organization that does not serve the cause it proclaims that it does.

For example, only 19% of Komen’s revenues go toward research... and of the $75 million for research, only $62M was spent on actual research awards and grants. The remaining $12.7M was spent on professional fees ($6.3M); Salaries and Benefits ($2.8M); and other Operating expenses ($3.6M). Although the research program was allocated 19% of total revenue, only 16% of total revenue was used to fund actual research.

Komen has been revealed to me as a politicized group that prioritizes its corporate sponsors and own public profile over the needs of women, especially poor women.

I would love to see you spend your three days on behalf of an alternative organization that devotes more of your fundraising directly to cancer treatment and prevention and less to its leadership's salaries. But that's just me, certainly others have valid perspectives.
