What do you have to show for yourself?

Dec 30, 2011 10:40

As 2011 draws to a close, I've taken some time (well, about 18 minutes or so) to reflect on my past year's writing and vidding.

It's a bit of a mystery to me how I could have been more fannishly productive last year-- when I was spending 10+ hours a week out on the road training for the marathon-- than I was this year sitting around at home on my butt, but ah well. So it goes.

Nevertheless, it always surprises me to see a list of the creative things I've done these past 12 months. (Did I write that? Really?)

Before discovering LJ, fanfiction and fanvids were completely unknown to me, and even after poking my head in here, I never thought I might try my hand at them. Thank you once again, fandom, for encouraging me to learn and grow and try. ♥

Bright Spark into a Flame [Sam/Dean, NC-17]
Oh man, I really don't think of myself as good at writing kinks, but there's something about somnophilia (vulnerability, line-crossing, danger of discovery) that I love. This was the second story about the boys squatting in an abandoned mansion, and I need to consider how to write more of them living it up in the lap of luxury.

Fudge You
Let's face it: I'm a horrible person. This vid came from such gleeful schadenfreude during Season 6 at seeing an eruption of the Dean/Castiel shippers all up in arms over Sassy, much as the Wincest shippers had agonized over D/C. PAYBACK! \o/ But it was also meant as a dig at myself for being waaaay over-invested in pairings and OTP in general. So yeah. Horrible Person.

Run for Cover [Jared/Jensen, R]
I think I write some of my best fic in those 24-hour tag challenges, probably because they don't let me overthink and procrastinate and hand-wring. This one was for silverbullets and turned out pretty well for a frantic scramble to the finish. (Sidenote: I honestly get so frustrated by all the people who sign up for silverbullets or salt_burn_porn and then pass when they're tagged, when I skip rounds if there's even a chance I'll be too busy. Cowgirl up, people!)

April 2011

Before a Fall [Sam/Dean, PG-13]
I love this form-- the interconnected drabble fic-- so much. SO MUCH! It's like putting together a 3-dimensional puzzle.

May 2011

How to impress your future in-laws [Jared/Jensen, PG-13]

Not as anonymous as you might think [Jared/Jensen, PG-13]

Both of these stories were from that awkward date comment fic meme I ran. I had as much fun reading people's hysterical real life stories they left as prompts as I did writing the fic to go with them.

June 2011

Insert Additional Quarters [Jared/Jensen, PG-13]
I was so excited that I got assigned electricalgwen for the Spring Fling exchange. She's the best! And you know who else is the best? laurificus for betaing this story, because the challenge word limit was 2.5K and I was way, way over and desperately needed her to take a knife to it. Who knew I could be so damn wordy?

Lose My Breath (a White Nights vid)
My first non-SPN vid. I would never have guessed I would vid anything else. And I was astonished and gratified by all the attention it received, given that it comes from an obscure 80s movie. I guess Mikhail Baryshnikov can do that for you.

November 2011

Show Me How You Do That Trick [Jared/Jensen, NC-17]
Hahahaa. I don't even know what kind of crack I was smoking when I decided to write this. It was supposed to be a short little fill for Fall Fandom Free-For-All and turned into a MONSTER of world-building and writing a popular, rules-established kink in a whole new way. It's so funny how, as the author, you can lose control of your characters as the fic goes its own way. If I'd never tried writing fic, I'd never have experienced the wonder of seeing that happen. For all those people who asked for a sequel, I promise to try. *bites nails*

Smooth Criminals
After the "Slash Fiction" episode, I felt compelled to make this little throw-away vid to showcase how extraordinarily HOT the dark!Winchesters were. I wish the snarky, evil copy-cat Leviathans could've stuck around longer. ♥_♥

i'm a grow-er not a show-er
