A distant shipsmoke on the horizon
Damn, ya'll. Life has completely EXPLODED on me, and I have some number greater than fuckjillion fics bookmarked to be read and I have no time to comment on everyone's thoughtful thinky posts about Thursday night's ep (ahha. APOSTROPHE.), but I read lots of them and think this fandom-- even when it has passionate, emotional, divided opinions-- IS BRILLIANT. Or maybe it's just my flist. But the level of analysis and counter-analysis of the canon text within 24 hours of airing is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
I have such a huge crush on your collective brain. ♥
And while I don't have time for a real review myself, here are a couple of quick impressions that seem to have different opinions as I read around:
1) I loved this episode mightily,
2) that doesn't mean I don't sympathize with or think illegitimate the elements that drove many of my comrades insane with grief, it's just that they didn't resonate that way with me (I found the body w/o soul twist a pretty decent (heh) solution to the consent problem and also =/= necrophilia except for when it does for the lolz in crack!fic... Ooops! Body decomposing! Gotta run!),
3) in some ways I wish the Sam/Ruby had remained unrequited, if only because I personally am enthralled by Ruby's desperate, unbounded lust/adoration/need/ulterior plans/whatever for Sam (and the possible parallels with how Castiel feels for Dean) and would love for them to have kept stringing them both out,
4) that said, the sex scene TOTALLY worked for me. Angry, despairing, self-punishing sex. Why do you find this so hot, libido?
5) POOL HUSTLING!!!! (poorly, but still.) THANK YOU, ERIC KRIPKE.
