“Connor!”
Connor scrambled down the stairs, alarmed by the angry tone of Abby’s voice.
“Why can’t you be more careful?” she demanded, gesturing at the overturned mug and the pool of tea spreading across the table and dripping to the floor below.
“What?” Connor protested. “I didn’t spill it. In fact, I was looking forward to drinking that.”
“Well it didn’t knock itself over, did it?”
“So it’s automatically my fault?”
As the argument raged on, they remained oblivious to the hidden observer on top of the cupboard. Still buzzing slightly from the sugar and caffeine, Rex licked his lips.
