First quarter(ish) update

May 02, 2022 12:38

Considering that in January I said I was going to try to post more regularly this year, that doesn't seem to have worked out so well, because it's now May. Oops.

Anyway, just a quick update, and then I'll get on with posting some very late book reviews.

I'm now at eight books read for 2022, which already beats my rather embarassing total of seven from last year. The real problem is clearly that I have *far* too many interests, and subscribe to *far* too many magazines, and there just aren't enough hours in the day to keep on top of the magazines *and* read books. I seem to go from one to the other - all the book reading happened in January and February, with a little spillover into the beginning of March. At that point the magazines were starting to build up, so I said I'd have a break from books and spend March catching up on the magazines. 'March' turned into 'March and April', so I haven't read a book for two months now.

Let's just say I'm determined to get into double figures books this year, but I'm no longer very sure that I'll get the full bingo on 2022 book bingo.

In other news, still not had the operation that I posted about in January. I had a pre-op assesment in January, and a couple of people both said to me, "oh, they do that about two weeks before the op", so I was kind of expecting it to happen in February. I still haven't heard a thing from the hospital. I phoned them at the end of February, and they said they couldn't give me a date, and couldn't even give me any idea what month it might be. So I'm still waiting, and getting quite fed up, to be honest.

I had a week off work last week, and spent a day going down to London to the British Museum for their World of Stonehenge exhibition. All I can say is, squeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!! It was excellent, and so much shiny Bronze Age bling! If you're at all interested in prehistoric archaeology I highly recommend it, the exhibition runs until the middle of July.

It was a bit daunting going down on the train. That's possibly the furthest I've been from home since February 2020 (which, ironically, was also a British Museum special exhibition, and was my last weekend away before the pandemic). And while I kept a mask on pretty much all day, I was definitely in a minority, and on the train I couldn't see anyone else at all bothering with masks. I'm still trying to be cautious and wear a mask on public transport and in shops, not least because the last thing I want is for the hospital to finally give me a date for the op and then it gets postponed if I test positive for covid. Going to London felt like a really big risk, but I decided I really, really, wanted to go to the exhibition, and I can't be a hermit forever.

random, life, ramblings
