syracuse
i am here in syracuse. my apartment was left disgustingly dirty; it took two days to clean it before i felt comfortable putting my things out. i was irritated as hell about that, but couldn't do anything about it.
i have been oriented to my program. i love it. i can't even begin to describe how nice it is to finally be around "my kind" of people. statements such as "i speak mandarin pashto and arabic" aren't uncommon. "i taught in the gobi desert while researching the spread of disease" is as normal as "i had breakfast today." there's 97 of us, and while i know we're not all going to end up being BFFs, there's a mutual understanding that is immediate and real.
classes start on monday. i can't wait.
