I agree though, they need a break - all of this stuff is turning them into stress-balls. That said, while reading that first section regarding Andrea and her sense of protectiveness, I do wonder how she'd have reacted to recent events (namely Jackson and the 'little' bully Lewis who not only insulted Rusty horribly but also *cough* possibly hit on Sharon *cough* (seriously though, am I nuts, or was that "How old are you?" line just the slightest bit... uhmm... oddly toned (that and the way his gaze went on her)? ><" I might be crazy).

This fic is AU in that Jackson and Sharon are properly divorced and he doesn't crash at her place whenever the hell he feels like it, nor does he come after her for her hard-earned money to co-sigh leases, etc. In regards to the Lewis thing, I can imagine that Andrea would have made sure (were she the prosecutor) that he would have gotten the maximum sentence possible for a boy his age. And yes, that kid creepily hit on Sharon. And it was gross. :(
Thanks for reading! Chapter two will be up tomorrow. :)

And re: the other issues...anyone who's been there, gets the aversion to JR. There's a lot about his jovial exterior that's very triggering, knowing what can be beneath that. I don't think I could write him...too much of my own stuff would bleed into Sharon. I like this AU very much :-)

I can't wait for happy, fluffy Hawaii!
We've just posted chapter three! (Which is in Hawaii) So let the happiness commence!

Yes, and yes. And I think it's perhaps something that only people who have had substance abusers in their family can truly understand. Yeah, this is a television show, BUT, it's touching on some very personal and traumatizing experiences. And other people in fandom need to respect that, and need to stop ripping people apart for saying things like, "This character makes me uncomfortable. This situation is triggering for me."
Thanks for reading! :)

We definitely wanted to have Andrea interact a lot with Rusty. It was something we discussed when we decided to start writing and we spent quite a bit of time thinking about what kind of stepmother Andrea would be and how their family dynamics would work with Rusty. It's fun to write.
Re: Jackson, I agree with everything you and DefyingNormalcy said. Television highlights reality and right now MC is highlighting a very ugly reality with the character of JR-people were bound to react strongly. I'm glad that we touched on the lasting effects for Sharon in this chapter, but I don't think I could ever really write him, either.

You are most welcome! It was an absolute pleasure to write and I'm glad that you enjoyed it. :D
Sharon being wary of Andrea's intentions too fits her character and her history so well- even when things are going right, part of her is waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Yes! sharon_ray and I talked extensively about this and we felt that Sharon would naturally be afraid to trust someone again with her heart/her children.
Thanks for reading :)
