A/N: Totally AU post-DB. Written to celebrate and mourn the passing of Fan Expo 2012 as I recover from all the crazy. Also, this may be a tad on the silly side, just saying. Thanks to redrockcan for her beta. Big hugs to all you ladies who waited in the endless lines, put up with the insane crowd of thousands, and bitched and moaned about the eau de fanboy with me this weekend. :P

"Gods," Laura moaned as she sunk into the firm mattress of their hotel room. Her bare feet dangled off the edge of the bed.

“Long day?” Bill chuckled. He reached for her aching foot and started to rub the arch.

“Oooh, keep doing that,” she sighed. “Yes, you’d think that by now they would have organized this frakking thing a little bit better,” she huffed. “It’s only been how many years since the start of the conferences?”

Bill nodded his agreement. Since settling on Earth five years ago, each year on the anniversary of their settlement the Quorum would hold a convention of sorts to celebrate, commemorate, and respectfully recall those who had not made it to their new home. Each former colony appointed representatives who held conferences all week long to honour traditions and religious beliefs from their home worlds. It was a beautiful celebration, and an opportunity to give thanks to those who had suffered and sacrificed so much.

Though Laura no longer held an official position within the government, she was invited each year to participate in the celebrations and to contribute to the preservation of their history. She often complained about the chaos each year, but secretly, Bill knew that she loved being able to contribute to the growing, and now settled community in some way. As an educator, he knew that she also loved and appreciated the lengths to which her people were going to in order to record and preserve their history.

“Do you have your speech ready?” Laura asked.

“I’ve got something in mind,” he said. Truthfully, Bill did not enjoy these sorts of things. As much as he agreed with the decision to pay respects to their tradition, he disliked being crammed into the undersized community center with thousands of other people for an entire week. Public speaking was never a task that he enjoyed, or excelled at, in his opinion. “I may just improvise,” he joked.

“Mmm,” she hummed her appreciation when he hit a spot on her foot which made her melt. “They didn’t have enough seats in the auditorium today, so we had to stand for Baltar’s speech. Frakker went on and on for almost two hours,” she grumbled.

“Well, I promise you that my speech will be short and to the point,” he said. Laura arched her brow in disbelief. Short and to the point were not Bill’s forte when it came to public speaking.

He chuckled ruefully.

“I’ll promise you this. As soon as the conference is over, I’ll take you back home to our bed, and I’ll make sure that you don’t leave it for quite some time. Give your feet a break.” His low growl and sultry grin made Laura’s heart skip a beat.

“Yes Sir," she purred in response.
