Remember when Mickey Rourke was sexy?
I am watching the Wrestler right now and he's got a touch of the Iggy Pop thing going on. It's creepy. It's not sexy.
EDIT: However, Marisa Tomei nekkid=way sexy.
Speaking of sexy, I sat through all 4.75 hours of Che on Monday at this really beautiful giant theater in midtown. It's exciting to me that there were over 100 people there on a weekday afternoon, giving up five hours of their lives to see it. Benicio is a sexy man. My mom said, "I know he creams your jeans." (Who talks like that?!), but I have to say that he doesn't hold a candle to the beauty that was Ernesto Guevara. That being said, he doesn't play the asshole who was Ernesto Guevara either. Still, it's a masterful portrayal and a very (somewhat unnecessarily) long film. You should see it. You will learn things.*
My guesses for leading actor Oscar nominations are Sean Penn**, Frank Langella, Benicio Del Toro, Philip Seymour Hoffmann, and Mickey Rourke. I am working my way through the films as fast as I can.
*I had a lot of issues with the way Soderbergh portrayed the American influence in both the Revolution (non-governmental) and in Che's assassination (CIA influence), but I can't be an objective observer in films about Latin America. I also would have ended the first half a day later than he did, but I suppose that's my version of
gordonzola wanting Milk to end with the riots rather than the vigil.
**If you haven't seen Milk yet, go! That's my city we're talking about.
