So, I quit derby.  It was good while it lasted, but then things got un-fun, which I was willing to live with until the end of the season, because I love my girls (and still do, most of them), but when bullshit was added, it wasn't worth it.  Not when I have a million other things going on in my life competing for attention, and not when it's ( Read more... )

I think that a part of growing up is being able to say "hey, this isn't fun anymore, and I don't have to do it", and then sticking to it. There comes a point when drama just isn't fun anymore, it's just...drama!

I considered joining the local roller derby team (the Albany All-Stars), but then I witnessed then beating up a guy outside of a bar. I don't care how big that guy might have been, ten on one is not fair. Especially since some of those girls looked like they were really guys!

I believe he got into a heated verbal fight with one of them which lead to actual fighting, and the rest joined in outside. The girl that was first involved used to work in my restaurant, and judging from the fact that she was fired for repeatedly threatening violence towards other wait staff, I really believe that SHE started the whole thing. It's one thing to be a close-knit group of friends/teammates, but damn!

That's the thing, you get to be unbelievably close-knit. You'd do anything for your team...except, apparently, take shit.
