THE DARKEST CORNERS by Kara Thomas
After helping to convict a man of murder when she was seven, Tessa returns to small town PA when her own imprisoned father is dying of cancer and gets caught up in finding the real "Ohio River Monster" after another teen girl is killed. This many-layered mystery is big on setting, suspects, and questions. Tessa is a strong lead character, and her rekindling relationship with her former bff is nice. The reader may wonder how the author can wrap up so many pieces in under 350-pages, and the answer is with a couple of chapters of expository explanation at the very end, which felt a bit rushed. Overall, a solid murder mystery with an unexpected conclusion. (Delacorte, 2016)
