Oh my god, this is so awesome! Thank you so much! I just got back from a virtually Internet-less day at work and then a great evening at the Writers Festival (a tribute to Alice Munro), but I still managed to read this on my birthday!

This is Wilson with all his warts and pathologies out in the open (and under the harsh glare of the overhead light), and I just love him all the more for them. And House doing what he does best - diagnosing the problem (and I love how Wilson's inner narrative so reflects what a beating his sense of self-worth has taken without the needed level of affirmation) and solving it in a way that Wilson finally has to face and accept.

So much love for this and for you!

Happy Birthday! I will confess that I started this over the summer (up to just after "Jeff the Pickle-Faced Mama's Boy"), but I finished it for you. Because, yes, here is Wilson, as he is and doesn't want to admit to being. Even his talents can be painful for him to acknowledge.

Thank you. Lots of love right back!

Wilson's inner monologue gave a lot of motion to a story that's essentially two guys in three rooms. House's literal motion also served as a contrast to Wilson being so intensely stuck ( ... )

Great story! Excellent Wilson voice and great way of showing how House analyses things. While discussing to volunteer at school it really shows how different they are: Wilson worries and House is convinced that if Wilson needs it, he should do it.
Any chance that we'll see Wilson volunteer at school?

I read some of your stories but I never commented before. Unforgivable laziness. I just wanted to say that I really loved 'My Fathers' Son'. Such a heartbreaking story. I cried my eyes out.

Thank you so much for the comment on this fic, and the wonderful compliment about "My Fathers' Son." My mind still adds new little moments to the story of Jack, House & Wilson, even though My Fathers' Son was written three years ago.

For "Type One," I think this is the end of the story, so no, we won't see Wilson at the school. I have plans to write a follow-up to a different fic where Wilson is the single dad to five-year old twins, so maybe that will feel similar? If the fic is ever finished! : )

A story where Wilson would be the dad to five-year old twins? That would be awesome.:)

OMG how awesome. I adore it. I love how you wrote from Wilson POV, you do that so well, you've got such insights, and I love how you wrote House, too. He's so wonderfully devious. I love how this shows the unique kind of love between House and Wilson.

And this: House can get away with a lot of things that you can’t, and that’s how the world works is basically the whole House/Wilson dynamics caught in one sentence. Brilliant!

Thanks so much for sharing!

Thank you! I love writing House during his caring moments because he just doesn't go about it the way other people do. Maybe even, can't go about it any way other than his own.

X can get away with a lot of things that you can’t, and that’s how the world works

I cannot tell you how many years and how much pain it took me to figure out that life lesson. I butted my head up against that brick wall way more than I should have.

Aw, lovely Wilson POV -- and second person. Have you done that before? And I have the feeling that Wilson's mother's rugelach recipe is awesome.

I haven't done second person before, and didn't anticipate I would. This story just called for it.

Wilson's mother's rugelach recipe would win the bake-off, for sure. Thanks!
