I think I have just had the quietest weekend in ages.
Quite a bit was taken up reinstalling my Mac after, what I now know to be faulty memory DIMMs started to cause it to
Kernel Panic (the Mac/Unix equivalent of Windows accursed
Blue Screen of Death) so much that the file system on my main drive became well and truly screwed.
I am a bit surprised that a Jounaled
HFS+ file system can go so badly wrong after a number of kernel panics that the standard fsck tool can not repair the errors. Maybe that's one of the reasons for Apple's rumored move the Sun's
ZFS in the
next version of MacOS X.
At least I now have a nice clean install which is not a bad thing.
I'm hoping that I'll be able to replace the memory under the terms of
Crucial's limited lifetime warrantee.
I'm taking tomorrow and Tuesday off but have plenty to do.
