Macintosh Memory Madness

Oct 08, 2006 20:52

I think I have just had the quietest weekend in ages.

Quite a bit was taken up reinstalling my Mac after, what I now know to be faulty memory DIMMs started to cause it to Kernel Panic (the Mac/Unix equivalent of Windows accursed Blue Screen of Death) so much that the file system on my main drive became well and truly screwed.

I am a bit surprised that a Jounaled HFS+ file system can go so badly wrong after a number of kernel panics that the standard fsck tool can not repair the errors. Maybe that's one of the reasons for Apple's rumored move the Sun's ZFS in the next version of MacOS X.

At least I now have a nice clean install which is not a bad thing.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to replace the memory under the terms of Crucial's limited lifetime warrantee.

I'm taking tomorrow and Tuesday off but have plenty to do.

mac, geek, weekend
