Yadda, Yadda

So yeah, I have not written much because well, not a lot has been happening.  Classes started.  My classes should be good.  My schedule is good.  The students said funny things.  Whatever.

ㅈ quit her job and is pursuing her dream of becoming a flight attendant.  I have been given her writing assignments and helping her as much as I can.  This weekend I went to 서울 and gave her a crash course in writing structure and expansion of the English verb.  In Korea aspect and tense are taught as one thing and it makes both thing very confusing.  I was very surprised the first time I heard "In English there are twelve tenses," because there are only two.  When went to a birthday party for a social butterfly that I taught with in 분당.  We ended up staying in a room with a window on the street in 이태원.  I thought it was neat until I was woken at 7:00 to a Korean conversation the consisted almost entirely of "18! 18! 18!"  It sucked.

I have been watching a lot of Korean movies.  With Korean subtitles I can understand almost everything.  The English subtitles are not always very good and often very different but spoken Korean is still difficult.  Koreans do not speak as clearly as they think they do.

I have been watching politics a lot.  It seems like Republicans appropriate the strengths of the Democrats and then accuse the Democrats of having their (Republican) weaknesses.  This seems to be especially strong this year and in 2004 when Rove--and now his cronies--were/are running things.  The McCain/Palin ticket is getting scary crazy.
