Volunteer Lunch

Yesterday the charity that I volunteer at organised a nice lunch for its volunteers. Apparently there are currently 27 of us, though only about two thirds of them were able to make it. That's still quite a lot though, and it was a very social event even if the long table wasn't particularly conductive to having conversations with anyone but your immediate neighbours, not to mention that I still suck at small talk. It was still nice to meet people though, and it was remarkable to hear about all the different things they do, and to see all the different walks of life that contribute.

The outing took place at an Italian restaurant called Zizzi's (probably because the volunteer coordinator herself is a born Italian as well), something that I was happy with because for all my pickiness when it comes to food, Italian cuisine is one area where I can always find something to eat that I like. The food was really good as well - usually restaurant food hardly blows me away but this was some seriously good stuff. I had garlic bread as a starter, a portion that was actually larger than my main course, and then a plate of spaghetti pomodoro. The little tomatoes that came with it were like friggin' taste explosions in my mouth; it was almost too much!

Food aside, we sat around chatting for over two hours, and at the end the volunteer coordinator handed out little laminated "thank you" certificates to all volunteers, signed by the CEO and all. I put mine on the wall as soon as I came home. :)
