Bad service

There's a company called Photo-Me that has a bunch of printing booths set up around town (in the mall, at WHSmith's and so on) where you can instantly print out photos off digital storage. Over the course of the past year I've used them to print out photos for my Mum about five times... or rather, I've been trying to, because more often than not the machines didn't work, with the key feature being that they never realised this fact until after I had inserted about twenty pounds worth of change into them in payment.

The first time I thought, oh well, shit happens. I called them up and they were quick to send me a refund in the mail. The second time I was starting to get a bit miffed but I figured, hey, at least they are quick to reimburse people. Today it happened for the third time and the woman on the service hotline told me that they couldn't do it over the phone and that I'd have to "write in" to get my money back. I tried to do so via e-mail but received no response.

How can a company make any money on a service that only actually works less than half the time? Or am I really just that unlucky? I wonder how many people have unsuccessfully tried to use those booths to print smaller numbers of pictures but decided to simply not bother with arguing for a refund of two pounds? Buyer beware is all I can say.

Of course that leaves me with twenty pounds gone and no pictures for my Mum. Boots has similar printing booths in their store but I've never been able to make them actually recognise my USB stick. Still, at the current rate I think I'll be better off just buying a new stick over the weekend, if only so that I never have to deal with this Photo-Me crap again.

rants, shopping
