Gobble 'Til Ya Wobble!

So I like to write on holidays because it's neat to look back and see what I was doing on that day each year. However, I rarely manage to write on the actual holiday. Inspiration usually comes the day after.

And typical for my family, the holiday comes for my family the day after as well. We often exchange gifts among ourselves the day after Christmas, and this year we're eating Thanksgiving dinner the day after since I'm not headed for my parents' 'til tomorrow. Lady_Bleu was horrified because she thinks I should spend the entire holiday with my parents, but I'm also working on my final graduation paper, and I know from experience that I won't get any of it done at my parents' house. I asked Mom whether she cared, and she said she doesn't mind at all. She just started a new job, and so she's been happy to have today to leisurely cook a bit and rest instead of worrying about having everything ready by lunchtime. To my chagrin, she also fervently added that she's just happy I'm not in India this time, but everyone has yesterday's Mumbai bombings on their minds so I can't blame her.

So what have I been doing today? I slept scandalously late, washed my hair and braided it, and read through most of my sources and took notes for a few hours. J. was sweet and washed both his car and mine (I would've helped, but he insisted I stay inside and study). I cooked dinner, a sautée of broccoli, chickpeas, onions, mushrooms, and spices to go on wraps with mozzarella. I called Mom and talked to her for awhile (I hope that mollifies you, Lady Bleu, though I haven't called my brother or grandmother yet).

I looked at all the Black Friday sale papers, but they actually really turned me off. Black Friday seems to be mostly for electronics, and I don't want any of those. I wouldn't mind some more sweaters, but it was a little annoying picking through the ads for the department stores because their coupons exclude about ten billion things. Of the presents and things I want to buy, I don't think I'll lose money by waiting another week when I'll know what all I want to get. After all, I haven't found any plastic storage tubs marked way down only for tomorrow or any of the presents I cannot explicitly mention. I'll settle for a peek in my favorite consignment shop and maybe a stop to poke through the yarns at the craft store near the cheap gas station on my way to my parents'. J. is getting up at 5:00 a.m. in pursuit of a really cheap laptop and some sort of GPS thingey, but my consignment shop doesn't open until 10:00 a.m.

Hmm, I didn't get to watch the Macy's Parade on T.V. I do like watching that while I help Mom cook, even though I'm simultaneously resentful that she never makes my brother or dad help. Grumble. Ah, well, I guess that's what YouTube is for if I want to bother. I'm more interested in trying this buttermilk pie that Mom made. She said it's like a custard pie, which is one of my favorite desserts.
