It must be Monday again

Silly, Silly Bastard
Hmm. Arriving at work this morning we found that expletives directed at the warehouse manager had been graffitied on the exterior cafeteria walls. Charming. Looks like Lancelot pissed someone off ... and if we can prove who it was (we know who it probably was, but proving it's another thing entirely) they're going to be in so much shit. I mean, really - how unsmart is it to scrawl on the walls three days after you've been transferred to another site?

Writing
New Awake Too Early column is up at TwoHeadedCat. All about WAXING!

My Illyria Ficathon fic has been kicking my ass. I've finally managed about 1,200 words, but can't figure out how to end it. So I've emailed what I have so far to thomasina75 to see if she has any inspirational ideas (it's only fair, as she emailed me for help on hers over the weekend). Still, I've got a few days up my sleeve. *sigh*

Weekend Update
The big excitement of the weekend was of course sweaty_dave's farewell party - he has gotten himself a job, but it's in Whangarei (two-and-a-bit hours drive north of Auckland, for anyone who doesn't know). Tamazon happily offered up her place for the shindig, and as her folks were away we were able to a) go as late as we wanted, and b) sleep over if it suited. This was a Good Thing, on both counts.

We also took the opportunity to give bob_odd his birthday present - a ginormous 20th Anniversary Edition Optimus Prime figure - two weeks early. Thirteen of us ended up chipping in for the costs, so it worked out quite reasonably. Check out his last few entries to see how wickedly we gulled him about it beforehand :)

Much drinking, reading of The Eye of Argon (more about that below), snuggling, a little hallway spinning with alasatyr, and - in my case - finding a couch in the study and curling up about 12:30am. FuzzyBen woke me up at 2am and we wrapped ourselves in sleeping bags and blankets before going to sleep in the main lounge (along with Panther, s_dave, Tamazon and Andrei). It was a good party.

I spent the rest of the weekend with a headache. However, I ignored that in favour of watching much Buffy and Angel with Ben: we took the Faith arc from Who Are You (Buffy S4) through to Five by Five (Angel S1). Then we spent the evening playing UpWords in a quiet house.

Then to sleep early, only to sleep late on Sunday. Followed by not much of anything, more UpWords (with Gorgox playing as well this time, and kicking our collective asses), then I went home and worked on my website a bit more.

Website stuff: I created a page with links to my fanfic - you can see it here. And added a few more writing and cartoony links. I still need to upgrade my Buffy Links page: any recommendations for academic articles, sites, and general goodness (not fanfic - I've got a lot there already that I want to rec), please just comment and I'll have a look-see!

Small World
It turns out that the Ellerslie murder was of a friend of a friend, which is not good. The Glique went and spent time with our friend on Saturday evening, although Ben and I did not. Sometimes there can be too many people, and I don't know her very well yet.

Is it wrong that when I first head the story on the radio earlier that day, I wondered for a second if it was M-the-ex, who (as far as I know) lives the next suburb over? Of course, it quickly became obvious that it wasn't him - age, hobbies, car and NAME being different. But still.

Reading
I left The Broken Goddess alone over the weekend. After attempting to read The Eye of Argon aloud as a group at Friday's party, I'd had enough of terrible writing to last me a few days. However, I did read the final five issues of Bone on Saturday night (after we swung by King of Cards on Saturday afternoon to pick up issue #55), and then the three issues of Rose on Sunday morning. Just gripping stuff - and Ben is all envious (hee!) that I got to read it all in one go, rather than over 20-odd years like he has. There are some advantages to coming to this late!

I attempted to read the three-part graphic novel of Weaveworld last night. The book, by Clive Barker, is one of my favourites - I first read it when I was about 14, and have re-read it every other year since. Unfortunately, the comic version is absolutely dreadful. Far too much of the story-line and explanations have been removed, and hence the pacing is uneven and the sense it makes it patchy. And I say that having not re-read the original for about three years - so I'm overdue for a refresh. I'll put the comic aside for now and try it again after the book. If I can be bothered.
