I've about had my fill of social events for a while, I think. Saturday I was supposed to head out to Goat Island with FuzzyBen to help celebrate Mandos' birthday. But by the time I'd finished work I really didn't feel like it, so I begged off, came home, and spent some quality Deborah-time watching more Babylon 5 and re-arranging my bookcases.
(My version of spring cleaning is far more exciting that hiffing around furniture and dusting things. Instead I haul books off shelves, pile them on the bed or the floor, and set about arranging them differently on the shelves. I really am a book geek.)
Ben came by about 6pm and joined me watching the end of Season 4. We had been invited to
fishie and
mugginsm's place for another BBQ, but neither of us wanted to leave the house at all. So we curled up on the bed, admidst book-y detritus, and ate Olive Foccacia with Baba Ganoush, baby carrots, and apple juice. It was most peaceful.
Ben had noticed my Stephen King collection (which is now up on the very top shelf neatly stacked), so I introduced him to one of my favourite King short stories, Dolan's Cadillac (in Nightmares and Dreamscapes). I fell asleep while he was still reading it, but he tells me he enjoyed it. Excellent!
Which reminds me: I read a
book review in the Canvas mag of the NZ Herald, about The Time Traveller's Wife. I want to get me a copy, as it sounds most intriguing.
Sunday we were awake quite early, so snuggled for a while and made up for three tired nights in a row. Then it was off to the bakery for a hot vege pie breakfast (yum), which we ate on his deck, looking over the Manukau Harbour. Invader Zim was attended by most of his flat - "Take me to the weasels!"
Li'l Chef wanted a lift to The Warehouse to get some more chlorine for the pool, so I ran her up there. Silly me - there was a book sale just inside the door ... and I can't reisist book sales. I found an Asimov that I didn't own - The End of Eternity, and Guy Gavriel Kay book (Lord of Emperors, the second in a trilogy - isn't that always the way?); and an interesting find called Bloom by Wil McCarthy. I have no idea if it's any good, so I guess I'll find out.
I keep meaning to make myself a spreadsheet to track what I read this year and whether it's something I own or have borrowed ... and I keep not getting around to it. At least if I manage it before the end of January I can probably remember what has gone before thanks to rambling about it here on LJ.
Sunday afternoon I hung out with
poing_critter - we're still getting to know each other a bit better. We hid indoors from the heat, clutched our frozen water-bottles (a great idea - I brought one to work today), and watched Galaxy Quest, and Dark City. Alabaster joined us for ice-cream and noir-ish goodness, and Gilmour Girls.
I was feeling a little down last night - unsurprisingly, given the last two weeks - so I treated myself to a nice vegetarian pizza, watched three episodes of Buffy Season 6, and went to bed nice and early. Of course I couldn't sleep. Are we surprised?
And nothing at all of interest has happened today, other than work. Oh, and I wrote a poem. I like it a lot, so I'm going to hold it back for submission.
New 2HC column
here. ETA: Plenty of interesting things happened this afternoon and evening, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out about them! *grin*
