'Today, children, we're going to learn about Deborah.'

Following up on the strange test that *checks* 67 of you took the time to look at, if not attempt to answer:

Apparently I made it too hard. When the most correct answers out of 20 is 13 ... yeah. Here are the answers, and some more information - because there are stories behind most of these answers :)

1: Which one of these happened to Deb at work?
The correct answer is B: She was bitten by a mouse whilst trying to release it outside

See? A strange test has strange answers. (I thought I had written a post about this when it happened, but 20 minutes of hunting has not turned it up...) Back when I was working in logistics, I arrived at work early one morning to discover that one of the many pest traps had actually worked. In this instance, it was a trap in our office, and a mouse was caught inside it (humanely). Being a soft-hearted wench, I picked up the mouse (I can also be a stupid wench, sometimes) whereupon it promptly bit my hand. I managed not to drop it, but cursed while I rearranged so Mr Mouse was held with teeth away from flesh, and then released it outside.

And learned to just take the trap outside, next time.

2: What was the name of Deb's first cat?
The appropriate answer is: C: Amos McGillicuddy

Peanut was the first cat that I lived with out of home, but Amos was the one I grew up with - my parents got him a few years before I was born, and baby-Deb tormented him and pulled his tail mercilessly. He lived until he was thirteen, when Mum accidentally ran him over on the driveway. Poor Amos :(

3: How many times has Deb been engaged?
The accurate answer is A: Once

And not to Ben! Nope - Ben and I didn't bother with an engagement, as we didn't feel it necessary. For my one and only engagement, it was to Paul, back in 1998. We had a lovely celebration at Long Bay on Labour Day (the hottest Labour Day in years - the entire beach and grounds were packed with people. Good thing we'd booked a space), and were planning to get married on May 20, 2000. But when Mum's funeral was on May 20 1999, we shelved that date, and then eventually the plans once I broke up with him in early 2000. Yes, I returned the engagement ring - it seemed the right thing to do.

4: What's Deb's stance on money?
The not-wrong answer is B: Impulse purchases are fine, provided it's not too appallingly expensive

I try and limit myself by going to second-hand stores and church shops instead - I feel like I get more bang for my buck that way.

5: What year did Deb start writing online?
The chronologically approved answer is C: 2000

Here is my first post online ever, as a guest-poster: DebXena: Insane? You be the judge.
This was quickly thereafter followed by a 'proper' column: 18 pages, 2 1/2 years.
From there I created my own website, and then ambled over to LJ, where I've been writing ever since.
There was also a long stint on 2HC, where I wrote until the end of the era.

6: How old was Deb when her father died?
The unfortunate answer is D: Eighteen

My Dad died of bowel cancer when he was 48 and I was 18. Hard to believe it's been over a decade since then. I wrote about Dad on his birthday in 2001 and 2003, and on the 10th anniversary of his death in 2006.

7: How old was Deb when her mother died?
The importune answer is C: Twenty-one

My Mum killed herself in 1999 when she was 44 and I was 21. It was four days after Mother's Day. I've written a lot about Mum over the years. I dreamed about her just before the first anniversary; I really don't like the month of May (although now I have our Civil Union Anniversary to look forward to); and I wrote about myself and her on the anniversary of her suicide in 2003 and again in 2005.

And these are the letters I've written to her over the years.

8: What does Deb take a disgusting number of pills to combat?
The answer nearly everyone got correct is B: Migraine

Does anyone not know that I have an intractable migraine? The day it started, incidentally, was 25 May 2005. One of these days it may actually go away completely. Well, I can hope!

9: Where in the world does Deb live?
The easily guessed answer is A: Auckland, New Zealand

What I wrote about NZ for newbabel a few years back.

10: What is Deb unashamed to talk and write about?
The unsurprising answer is D: All of the above

Sex (and Sex Filter)
Illness, Migraines, and Taz's sickness
Blessings

11: How did Deb get married?
The romantic-yet-quiet answer is A: At home in a quiet ceremony with close friends

The surprise posting, with photos :)

12: How does Deb describe her eating choices?
The linguistically amusing answer is C: Vegequarian

Not just me - there are four of us on LJ. I don't miss eating meat at all (yes, I know that fish is still a meat ...), but freely and hyprocritally admit to still eating and loving seafood. Plus it's needed for my heath. I still have a small amount of organic beef three-four times a year, but never chicken or pig if I can avoid it.

13: Who is Deb married to?
The current answer is D: Ben

fuzzy_ben, for those who are curious.

14: How did Deb get the scars on her right wrist?
The painful answer is B: Putting her hand through a window trying to open it

I managed to do so trying to open a window for my brother, and it was about five hours before Dad died and we got the phone call from the hospice. I was still all woozy from going to the A&M and getting all sterry-stripped and tetanus-shotted. Looked great at the funeral, though, as it looked like I'd tried to hurt myself. I write about my scars here.

15: What fandom has Deb not written fanfic for?
The actual answer is A: Stargate SG-1

Buffy fic
Firefly fic
Invader Zim fic

16: How old was Deb when she had sex for the first time?
The illegal answer is B: Fourteen

And it sucked - two virgins, in a park, and I had bamboo shoots sticking into my back. I wrote about it here (question five).

17: What was the name of the first site Deb wrote for online?
The Alanis-Morissette-ironic answer is A: Addict

Why is it 'ironic'? Because bigtaz also wrote for them for a while, and he is an addict.

18: Why doesn't Deb work full-time?
The workable answer is B: Her illness means she can't work full days

But I am getting better! I regularly manage 25 hours a week, now :)

19: How did Deb become polyamorous?
The amorous answer is D: All of the above

Other people's thoughts on poly.
My thoughts on poly.
Also a more complex answer to the question here (question 4).

20: Why did Deb write this test?
The sneaky answer is C: To challenge herself and her friends

Me? Bored? Never! I hope you weren't, either :)
