!!MOD NOTE!! Update on Deb and Laurie
I heard from Laurie a week or so ago: the plan at the time was for Deb's brother to fly to Massachusetts this week for his final workup (they got federal funding for the transportation), and for the transplant to take place not long after. Deb's health has been in a general decline, so the transplant team is feeling more urgent. Laurie asked that we forward the rest of the auction money to help cover Darren's bills while he's in Massachusetts (for workup, surgery, and the extended recovery process), and Jae (wonderful Jae!) has done so.
I ran the final-final numbers: total raised was $13,500 (and some change). We paid for the genetic testing for both Darren and Deb (which was ~$3.5K total), and now we'll help make it possible for Darren to be here.
So please think happy thoughts and send positive energy (in whatever way you do that) for all to go well and smoothly! Thank you all for all the wonderful things and services and everything else you offered, and for everything you donated to the cause!
