Not a great photo, but taken out of my back door earlier. Mum used to call weather like this "concrete skies" and said it used to weigh down on her. I know what she means. It has been like that all day ... very odd
Some, like these were to do with learning to read. Some were fairy tales (my favourite was The Elves & The Shoemaker). There were also geographical ones, and nature eg, Mammal's of North America, British seashores. And loads of history ones, such as king Alfred the Great, WWI, Dinosaurs.
They are not made any more like this any more, but really were brilliant. Here is a bit more
In looking at the books on Ebay I found there's a tongue in cheek Ladybird Books for Grown-ups series with titles like The Ladybird Book of Dating and The Ladybird Book of the Mid-life Crisis!
I'm a good neighbor yes. I don't get too friendly though with everyone, but I do give my number in case they need something or, if I need something since I live alone. And I have these apple trees, so if they want apples, I always tell them come and get em whenever.
Oh, pity we aren't nearer, I do love apples, and don't have any fruit trees!
The house I grew up in had some apple trees, but the neighbours behind up had a couple of great plum trees, that they never picked, so that was always an autumn task for Dad and myself.
