I am thinking about whether teaching can be taught... I think it helps to be taught some of the essential nuts and bolts. I did a City & Guilds* Teaching course run by the School of Nursing*, as a ward sister and I think it was useful - but it was only 1 day a week for an academic year.
But there are 'non-teaching' things that school teachers don't seem to be taught these days as they dash from obtaining their degree to teaching so quickly - such as the young man teaching Year 1 children who couldn't understand why a 6 year old child who drank a 300ml bottle of water at 10.00am might need to go for a wee before 12.30 - he could drink 300ml and not need to go for 2.5 hours after all...
However I do wonder if you actually needed the course as you so obviously love your job, the teaching would have been "natural"
Oh, hadn't thought of the non-teaching things ... but again, that's probably natural (or not) as well!!
I think trying to teach Maya how to work with the clinic & patients but as she doesn't seem to listen anyway then my teaching technique doesn't really matter!!!!!
