On June 3 I caught myself from falling and still injury occurred. It seemed to me that I had a pinched nerve in my lower back that made my back hurt and down the front of my right thigh to my knee and front shin. I was unable to sit without much pain and I found relief when I stood or lay on my left side until the following week. The pain was constant, no matter what I did. I was nearly in tears, so I saw a doctor on June 14, who prescribed morphine.
The medication relieved the pain and I would sleep (almost constantly). On Monday I felt so much better that I decided to empty the soda cans in the two large cooler which had been outside my patio door since December 25, 2012. One cooler was broken, so I placed it upside down and planned to dump it. Then I stepped over it to toss the empty soda cans in the recycling trash and my right knee gave out and I actually fell. I couldn't get back up, though I certainly tried. I crawled (and it hurt) into my kitchen and used the counter to lever myself up. Luckily, my husband came home.
I quit taking the morphine a few days later when my left knee felt weak and I realized that I would need to drive, though my husband's helpfully intentioned words did not match my needs, he would be unavailable to drive me to the doctor or to the store for groceries.
Instead of the morphne, I took over-the-counter ibruprofen as prescribed for the pain. I was and still am back to laying and sleeping on my left side for pain relief. I can now sit for about 15 minutes without having to lay down again. Yes, it's been over four weeks since my fall. I figured it would take six weeks to heal. I just want to feel good again. (I know that many other people have it much worse.) I am grateful for my life and experiences.
