Just had a sad little funeral service for a kitten, a tiny little black feral kitten no more than a month old. Her stronger tabby sibling is in the stable where I found this one. Their mum seems to be the little black one which we had spayed last week and since she brought the little Tabby kit over at feeding time last night I know this wasn't a case of her having abandoned her litter due to the trauma of being trapped and neutered which is good as I'd have felt very guilty.
One of the reasons for keeping up with TNR is that when kittens have kittens themselves the mortality rate both for mums and kits is even higher than usual and that mortality rate is already close to 50%
. Few things are sadder than a dead kitten but this one has at least been wrapped in a soft blankie and buried under the yew tree. RIP little feral kitty, sorry we couldn't have got you to three months old and found you a home. I'll keep an eye on the little tabby now that I've found it,
