One week and two days. That is how long I have been in this whole new world. This world of community and family, people you don’t even know, from different countries, treating you as if they have known you forever. How does a place like this even exist? And why don’t more people know about it? Do you have to be in a certain place in your life to even begin to learn about this magical place? Camp Cedar, that is right I am at a place called Camp Cedar, a camp full of Jewish little boys and plenty of counselors that are looking for their place in life. So far my experiences here have been rather pleasant, from four wheeling with a golf cart to roasting marshmallows and following my kids all around. My kids! Oh I have to tell you about my kids. My charges are Kieran (4) and Kiley (2) and honestly despite the fact that they are spoiled and don’t like to socialize with kids their age, they are literally the cutest kids I have ever had the pleasure to be with. They, for the most part, listen to everything that I say and they absolutely love when I play with them. It has to be the most amazing feeling to have the child you are taking care of call your name with such delight when you fall into their line of sight. If you have never experienced that kind of joy then I must urge you to attract it into your life. From the first day I came here I did not anticipate what was in store for me here, I've heard stories and imagined experiences, but there is no comparison to the real thing. This place is completely indescribable, I mean you literally feel as if you are not a part of society, you feel as if you are in a whole 'nother world, a place where you can forget about your bills and all your worries and just focus on having fun. Having fun with the kids, having fun with other counselors, or just having fun enjoying the scenary all around. I feel like I can just live here forever, playing with the kids and mingling with the internationals! I have met so many people from Poland it is completely unreal, they have even begun to teach me a few curse words in polish...and if I knew how to spell them I would totally explain them to you. But alas I must say that I cannot spell them and I don't want to look stupid trying. Kevin and Melissa, the couple I am babysitting for are completly amazing! They have the best personalities in the world, sweet and compelling they both make you feel like you are home when you are around them! And all of the counselors are pretty amazing as well, especially my girlfriend! Going on a year and a half and we are still going strong, making new experiences and memories with eachother and showing each other new things along the way. I am so glad that I am here in Maine with her, enjoying these new experiences and putting my thumb print in the Camp Cedar way of life!
