I think maybe Starlin Castro put a spell on the Cubs when he was called up from AA Tennessee. He made a debut that is fitting for a Hollywood movie. He hit a 3-run homer in his first at-bat, then later hit a bases loaded triple to drive in 6 RBI in his first game in the major leagues. Obviously, he didn't have any time to think about butterflies or where exactly he was.
As a result, the Cubs won 14-7 over the Cincinnati Reds, almost blowing it in the late innings when John Grabow couldn't get anyone out. Carlos Silva wasn't exactly lights out, but go the win anyway. The Cubs needed Marlon Byrd's 2-run homer and Mike Fontenot's grand slam to make it a somewhat comfortable lead.
Cubs SS Castro has record debut in win over Reds It was just the shot in the arm the Cubbies needed.
