"Is there a specific style of poetry you want us to try and use, or will any do?"

Anything is game.

As long as it doesn't begin with anyone from Nantucket.

"I see. What is Nantucket? Other than something that makes a tasteless rhyme? Also, is there a theme you wish us to use?"

The theme is 'use your imagination and think of what Susan would appreciate'.

'Proper'? So long as you can sketch and example for me, I can do my best to recreate it.

A black cloak with a hood. That's all I ask.

No sleeves or any specific sort of lining?

Just the cloak will do nicely. The fabric ought to be sturdy, but comfortable, naturally.

[Edward waves a hand to silence her.]

That's---that's not funny. It wasn't funny the first time you called it that, either.

You think so?

Well? The furniture was still in one piece when I checked this morning, so that's a good a sign as any.

[ Thrilled with this, Slugger is not.
He would sooner boycott.
He stares at the wall.
He stares at the floor.
He stares at Susan...

and then stares some more. ]

Can it be a haiku?

What is a haiku, and why are they so popular?

[The words you have chosen are poor
For 'Susan' rhymes not with 'wall'; more,
Why 'ABAB'?
Your rhyme scheme, you see
Is 'AABC' then 'BC']

It's Japanese; short -- only three phrases.

[And that's as well as he can describe it. Literature isn't exactly his forte but he's a little shocked (and pleased) to learn he knows something Susan doesn't.]

Give an example. I might know what you mean.

[Susan looks perfectly alright with that, perhaps surprisingly.]

[Lit class is about the only one Crowe has even been half-paying attention to lately. However, when it comes to actually doing creative writing instead of just reading it, he utterly fails. Near the end of class, all he's managed to do is jot down some meters and rhyming schemes. He mutters to himself, frowning.]

[Susan takes a cursory glance before raising an eyebrow.]

Speak up, Mr. Crowe. Are you offering an explanation for this?

Er. Sorry. I'm just not good at...stuff like this.

That's fine. I'm not even sure what qualifies as 'good' in this line of work. But I don't seem to see a poem on here . . .
